| Posted: | | | | Hi All, I have created some time ago an online version of the dvdprofiler program. It uses the dvd profiler xml file and imports it into a mysql database. The online version includes: * Interface like dvd profiler. * Basic search options like dvd profiler. * User management including user/pass, ip login, history. * Favorite list, users who visit your collection can add/remove titles to a custom favorite list. That list they can print/email. * Statistics like how many disks of a genre, year and price information per genre/jear/month. Also total stats. * Two layout, one like the dvd profiler program for high speed internet connections and a simple interface for low speed internet. * Also included a mobile search page so you can check your collection online on any phone/pda with an internet connection. I use this in stores if i don't know or i have the title already or not. Image 1: Default interfaceImage 2: Default interface, now with Cast info instead of OverviewImage 3: Default interface, blu-ray title with Back Image and Discs overview.Image 4: Statistics, Amount by genre and total overview on the bottom.I'm looking for somebody who wants to continue the programming to finish the program. I use it myself for my collection but because the limit of time i have, i cannot continue the work it requires to finish. But if there is somebody who wants to continue it, please contact me. Greetings, Piet van Stralen |

Skip Possibly. Perhaps Ken might like to take it up, it looks good to me! |

| Posted: | | | | We don't know the full details but Ken is already working on something like this. Quote:
DPO Plus # Developed in Adobe Flex Builder 3
# Flash-based access to your DVD Profiler Online account in real-time
# Make direct changes to your collection (add/remove/move/personalize, etc)
# Features and interface designed to be used from normal PCs and HTPCs
# This will be a subscription service, with a very nominal yearly fee
# Future releases of this service will incorporate more and more of the desktop features

Skip I use it only for myself to see my collection from dvd profiler. It is not online for other users because it is protected by username/pass. But i thought maybe somebody wants to make it better and make it public so all users of the dvd profiler program can benefit it. Maybe Ken is interrested in the sourcecode to use it. |

| Posted: | | | | pietvs... you may get crapped on from the naysayers here but I commend you for taking the initiative to work on something that almost everyone on here has been begging for and, coincidentally, been waiting on now for what seems ages. DPO Plus has been dangled in front of our noses like a carrot for months now... I stopped holding my breath and now use phpdvdprofiler for my online collection and I'm quite happy with the results.
Besides I think your idea is just an extension and enhancement of the main program using the .xml like other programs do and yet I don't see any of the other plugin developers getting flamed. If yours works and is liked by the Profiler community it would seriously dent the subscription base for the DPO Plus... should it ever decide to manifest itself, so of course they are going to attack your ingenuity.
I will concede that DVD Profiler has been by far the best solution for DVD cataloging software to date and for that very reason I believe that Ken has become complacent with further development of the product. Perhaps a little competition wouldn't hurt.

That thought popped into my head also. Change the layout a little bit, take other icons... By the way, copyrighted doesn't mean that you you are not allowed to write a software that is very similar (even in it's design). The only real problem that I can see are the icons. They look like copied from DVDProfiler. But I don't know the licence status of them. Maybe Ken licensed them from a third-party for use in DVDProfiler. @pietvs: You missed the most important stuff. | Posted: | | | | Looks damn fine Hopefully it will become available to the public. As for what others have said, it doesnt really do anything that other Online collection things arent doing. Though asking Ken wouldnt hurt. E.g. DVD Profiler Companion used to make html collection from any layout of choice. But it hasnt been updated since IVS changed to Invelos. Looked like that: http:// www.mimiuchi.fi/dvd/As you can see, it has any layout of choice, filters and generally had the same goal as this one. Having a replica of your collection online in the same format. | | | Last edited: by whispering |

So the interface is loaded once and then all actions are done via ajax routines. The database is stored in a mysql database but is not yet optimized. |

By the way: My CCViewer program does have an HTML Export similar to the one that DVD Profiler Companion had. The result looks like this | | |

The database is stored in a mysql database but is not yet optimized. Then it is similar to phpMyProfiler and phpDVDProfiler. I am one of the developers of phpMyProfiler. Therefore I'm interested how you use Ajax in your project because loading times for searches etc. are one of the biggest problems in phpMyProfiler. Maybe you can put a "cleaned" version (without the invelos icons etc.) on google-code, sourceforge, ftp, your site... It would be sad if such a promising project will be lost. Or I can put it as an branch in our svn-repository at sourceforge. So everybody who is interested may look on the code and maybe developing it further. | | | Never argue with an idiot. One problem maybe the not perfect db-structur and query generating. Another problem not really fast db-server at the hosting. Therefore I think loading the data in background via AJAX would be a better solution to the user. But at this time I have no really experience with AJAX. So an working solution maybe a good start to looking at how the thinks work, not to simply copy it. | | | Never argue with an idiot. He brings you down to his level, then beats you with experience.
