Hi All.
I am stuck how to add my box set, let me explain how the box set is made up
It is 5 Seperate DVD's with 2 Films on Each DVD, 1 on each side
The Box Set then has 5 DVD's in a Boxset type case
Each DVD has its own UPC which is for the 2 Films on it
and the Box Set Also has a UPC
The UPC for the box set is not found in the Online Database, Neither are the UPC for the Indivual DVD's
The Dvds are found by the Disk Id's
Do i add each dvd by disk id? also do i add the as side a and b or seperate disks per film
then add the parents and tie to the childs.  I hope you understand this as i think i have just confused myself. The Boxset is called "10 Action Feature Films" (UPC  5 060126 188124)
Hope someone can help
Thanks Geraint

Sounds like they gave you a little of everything.

Were it me i'd:
1) create the Boxset profile from the Box UPC then
2a) create 10 child profiles by disc ID (one per movie/side)

a less attractive alternate to 2a) is:
2b) create 5 child profiles, one per disc.

The downside of 2b is you then have to set up dividers between credits for the two films on each disc (and the options like Features/Audio/Subtitles/etc. become muddled) while 2a would allow you to have each film in a separate profile - nice and clean.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

I would definitely go with 2a (assuming the only UPC is for the whole set), making sure that the Disc ID is entered for the correct side for each movie.  There will be no "A" side for five of the profiles, and no "B" side for the other five.

If you have 5 cases (with UPC's) in a box with it's own upc  I think I would set up like this

Box Set (UPC)
  Child Profile (UPC)
        Side a (Disk ID)
        Side b (Disk ID)
  Child Profile (UPC)....

So you would be setting up a parent with 5 child profiles then each child would have 2 (grand)child profiles, one for each side of the disk.

of course My Opinion....

never tried it, but it should work

It would work, and i considered it, but what purpose would the Child Profile (UPC) layer serve to do besides use the UPCs?  They'd be empty except for titles a and few fields (as would their parent).  I don't see them providing any organizational benefit.

And like you...my opinion.

First I think it would provide proper representation of the way it was bought
second - if they are individual cases with UPC's, then you would be able to submit the artwork for the individuals.

Otherwise, if you went with the 1 parent with 10 children, organizationally it would be fine.  I could go either way, but the way that I organize, I would represent the way it was bought and would like the additional artwork (albeit, maybe a little more work)

For him I don't see the benefit either. But maybe the Child Profile (UPC) are also sold seperately and if he contributes the box that way, other people who buy only one or two of the Child Profile (UPC) find them then.

I agree with Charlie M:

Box Set (UPC)
  Child Profile (UPC)
        Side a (Disk ID)
        Side b (Disk ID)
  Child Profile (UPC)....

the purpose would be
1) because that's the way they are actually presented
2) the Children by UPC may very well be released in the future (or released already) and that would be the correct format for them and they would already be in the database. I certainly think if each of the cases has a UPC it is quite likely that this would happen/has happened.

If the individual discs have their own UPCs, then i agree.

Has this actually been confirmed?

And I agree with Unicus.

You saw this a lot with (the now-defunct) BCI Eclipse, where they'd repackage the same discs (with the same disc IDs) in a variety of ways.
