- Wikipedia.
- IMDb.
- Variety.

The database contains both many, many L/S/D entries as well as L//S D ones. Which is it? For the record: the CLT also shows a number of Lauren Shuler-Donner credits.

I would leave it as 1/2/3 unless you can come up with something a lot more definitive than the sources you provided. Perhaps you can find some interview where she might be referred to as Ms. Shuler Donner.

Two of your sources are highly suspect to begin with, the third I didn't find revealing of any information re: parsing.

As has been explained many times it is not terribly uncommon for women in the US to simply move their maiden name to the middle name position. which is a very distinct possibility here.

For the Variety link, they list her as "Shuler-Donner" which would give a parsing of 1//23.

They weren't meant as "sources" for parsing, just as a bit of background info on this particular person. For the record: I don't believe I've ever seen conclusive documentation on "correct" parsing, which the often used "unless documented otherwise" approach is such a load of crock. It simply doesn't exist: there will be sources referring to her as Mrs. Donner, and there will be sources referring to her as Mrs. Shuler Donner. Neither will be deemed conclusive by those that prefer the other way of parsing.

I just want to try and settle this one, as I've got a contribution pending where someone is voting against how I've parsed Lauren Shuler Donner. As always, I really don't care either way, as long as we pick one, and use it consistently. To achieve that, I just need a convincing poll result to refer the voters and the screeners to.

REALLY, I don't see that anywhere on the variety link. In fact, if we wanted to play the game, some user did a few weeks and try to use to actual link as the verification, the link says Lauren+Shuler+Donner, but I reall don't see Lauren Shuler-Donner indicated ANYWHERE.

It doesn't matter what Variety says - we see it in our database. She's credited as "Lauren Shuler-Donner" in films like 'Maverick', 'Lethal Weapon 3', 'Dave' and 'Three Fugitives'. She's credited without the dash far more often, though.

The IMPORTANT thing is that the name appears as it does On Screen, we aren't writing for BIOGRAHY® are we.

Almost correct: the IMPORTANT thing is that her credits link together. I'm trying to establish that, here: there's no need for you to drag different naming conventions into this. You'll note that I didn't mention anything like that at all. I'm the one who was trying to use the Lauren/Shuler/Donner parsing, and was getting no-votes because of that. I was just telling you what the "no"-voters to my contributions said.

If the 'Shuler-Donner' credits can be verified, I would go with 'Lauren/ /Shuler Donner' as correct parsing.  The variety page does refer to her that way in the Biography section, and I just read an interview with her at IGN, where she is refered to as 'Shuler Donner'.

I've personally verified "Lauren Shuler-Donner" credits in 'Maverick', 'Lethal Weapon 3', 'Dave' and 'Three Fugitives'. There are many more credits without the dash, though.

My guess, and this is just a guess, is that she adopted the hyphenated name because she had a career as 'Lauren Shuler' before she got married.  Once the 'Shuler-Donner' name stuck, there was no reason to keep the hyphen.  Again, that was just a guess

I have done some fast digging, and found an interview where she is called Shuler Donner, that appears to be suspect for a couple of reasons, but i also found another ARTICLE which refers to her as Donner. There are 212,oo hits on her name.

I would defend your Contribution of 1/2/3 for exactly the reasons I have stated.

That may or may not be a valid guess, Unicus. If we are going to use Credits to verify the name, then what I would want to see is what I did with HBC. Let's find a sequence of credits which would read in order LS-D, LSD, LS-D, that would pretty well nail it down. She could well have also decided to go from LS-D to L/S/D, we don't know. I am suggesting possible ways to resolve it, the interview or article concept is inconclusive at best. So I think we need to look at something else, and the Credit sequence i outlined seems the most logical.

Thanks i missed that, but based on other evidence found thus far, it's not substantive enough. I think we need to try the credit sequence route.

As it happens, I've just dug out my DVD of Maverick & she's hyphenated in that -

Edit: Just checked my database & I've got another title that may have her hyphenated. I'll dig it out to verify.
