Two short movies on the same disc, how to create a profile?

Hello

I'm having some trouble on how to correctly create a profile when there are multiple (in my case, two) short movies on one single DVD.

My first idea was to create a box-set, with one sub-profile for each movie. But as both movies are on the same single-sided disc, I can't give unique IDs to the profiles (the UPC would be used by the parent profile, and I can use the disc ID for only one of the sub-profiles). Any idea which is the correct way for that kind of DVD?

Creating one single profile also has its problems: one of the movie has a French audio track, the other one has a Russian audio track with both English or French subtitles.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards.

We're pretty limited as to how to deal with situations like this.
Best you can do for the online is to separate the cast and crew using dividers.
As for the audio tracks, I would list them both even though there is one for one short.

If you want to go into more detail locally, you can do what you considered before: create a boxset and use a manual profile for the 2nd short - but unfortunately those profiles can't be submitted.

I agree with north.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I'm with them as well - it's what I did for a set I own of Santa Claus Is Coming to Town & The Little Drummer Boy.  It doesn't have two different audio tracks, but otherwise seems analogous.

This is the only solution if you do not want to violate the rules, that are very clear:

"The term "Box Set" is used to define any release that includes more than one film. The main examples are:

    * Sets where each film is packaged individually, and held together in a package of some kind.
    * Sets where each film is on a separate disc, but not individually packaged. This includes gatefold Digipaks and 2-Disc sets in normal DVD cases.
    * Sets containing 2 films, one on each side of Dual-Sided DVD."

Unfortunately, the application of rules forbid you to contribute your work. If you you enter them as a boxset, it's a technical problem that prevent you to do so (UPC), and if you enter cast and crew with dividers, it's the apllication of rules that forbid you to do so. So you have anyway to keep your work local.

That's not necessarily true surfeur, for example UPC 683904-450593 Crossworlds/Cyborg 2: Double Feature. Both films are on one disk, cast and crew for both movies were submitted using dividers and accepted and realeased.

The fact they were accepted doesn't prove that the contribution doesn't violate rules. In fact, as usual, I find most rules should be used as guides, and that is not me who worked for strict application of rules. To be more clear, I also saw contributions where typos on overviews were corrected by the contributor, and the contribution accepted. I do not find that bad.

But what I find very funny is to see one user, who loves to give lessons and vote no on contributions, agree with advices that are against the rules.

@surfeur, to what are you referring to? I am not attempting to give lessons to anyone just gave one example. and apparently the submission does not violate the rules.

Sorry, but rules say that any release that includes more than one film is a boxset. If that submission has not been entered as a boxset, then it violates the rules.

Agree with north, unicus, rory etc.

The wording of the rule Surfeur is referring to, however, sounds a bit too absolute. It might be a good idea to rephrase it to "any release that includes more than one film, except if one side of a single disc contains more than one film" or something along those lines (I'll leave it to a native speaker to come up with the best wording). Thus, any confusion (intentional or not) could be prevented.

I totally agree with you.

In the same idea, the wording of the rule about overviews sounds a bit too absolute. It might be a good idea to rephrase it to "Copy the overview from the back of the DVD case exactly as written, except typos that may be corrected."

BTW, until rules are changed, I thought they had to be applied as they are...

Except that in this case, that's technically impossible (at least, for the Invelos database). So northbloke's approach is currently the best we can do.

Why this need to contribute what is forbidden by the rules ?

Contribution role committee is the right place to propose a change, and if Ken wants it, he will change the rules. If he doesn't, it is not our role to decide in his place.

I will stop now this discussion. My purpose was just to demonstrate that people cannot say "We must apply strictly all the rules" when they find it correct for them, and "we do what we want" when there is a problem for them.

Thanks all for your answers... even though, in the end, I still don't know if I should contribute this profile or not. ;-)

@Rory: Thanks. I haven't seen the movies yet, as I've not been able to find correct (i.e. region 2 discs, with English or French subtitles and no excessive shipping charges) DVDs of them. So I took the name from the anime series.

Go right ahead and contribute your profile. Countless contributions like these have been approved in the past (including a 50-movie box set containing twelve double-sided discs, each of which held more than one movie, which I submitted myself - check it out, if you like: the UPC is 826831070124 and you can see how this can be done by taking a look at the child profiles). Moreover, by contributing you're assisting your fellow users who then won't have to do double work.

The issue Surfeur was referrinig to is in fact a failure in the wording of one sentence in the rules to deal with a current technical limitation of the programme, nothing more. Contributing the way northbloke, Unicus and others have recommended is standard practice.

Just make sure you follow the Contribution Rules and specify in your Contribution Notes where you got your data from. Cast and Crew credits should come from the films' credits themselves.

If you have any further questions, just ask in these forums and I'm sure a fellow user will try to answer them.
