I know, the rule sayed: If only the Cover changed and the UPC Number will be the same we have to take the old one.

But, in Germany we have an new law which says, that in future all covers must have an big rating logo on the front cover. So all covers will be changed in the future.

I think, many people are there like me, that the want the right cover in the database. But not every body has an scanner and others only want download the complete profile from the server without any work. But in the future, in DVD Profiler will be many profiles with an wrong cover and I thing that there will be come many questions and updates like this.

So the question is: Is it usefull to take the old cover if in future all dvds, blu rays etc. have an new one and all people how have bought the dvd after the re released have the new one?

A re-release is still a re-release. I don't think for one minute that you or your fellow German compatriots are going to go out and buy the New re-release DVD's just because a new law has come about stating that DVD's must now carry x,y or z logo. Ratings symbols change ever now and then regardless of which country you are in as new laws are passed old ones repeeled etc.

So the General Rules for this community will probably remain in effect that the original released data will be the main DB entry.

People that have a dvd with an old cover want to hold that one, so the old cover has to stay in the main db.
If You have a new cover than keep it localy in Youre own db.
And if You don't have a scanner than You have to look for the cover on the internet or make a request for it in the forum.

Until this program supports multiple versions of covers we will have to consistently pick just one.  The choice has been made to pick the initial cover, not the reprint cover.  Arguments can be made regarding the merits of either position, but one group of users will inevitably be unhappy.  I see no reason to change this policy.  I'd rather see the program enhanced to accomodate cover versioning.

@snarbo
You are right. Nobody will be rebay the DVD/Blu Ray etc. The Disc is still the same. But the German law says, that all covers must be exchanged to date xyz (I don't realy now the exact Date).
So all new Bayers will become the new Cover (and this will be in the future a much, because all covers will be cahnged in the next time.

@Zwollenaar
But where is the Problem. If i have the old cover, I protect this and the new one will not be transfered.

But now, all new customers become also the old one. And sometimes the cover are redisigned for the new rating logo.
OK, I don't know how many people realy have an problem if in the database will be an old cover. But for me this is an Problem (and I haven't an own scanner, so I have scanned today some covers with the scanner of an friend).

@mdnitoil
You are right. A group af user will be always unhappy. But I think, we have know an new Situation. How often all covers will be updatet becase an new law? I think, this is the first time since DVD Profiler exists. Isn't it?
So maybe we need an update for this rule.

I highly doubt this rule will change... at least not before the program can handle more then 1 set of cover-art. But some of us have taken it upon ourselves to have a site to store re-release covers for those that need it. You can see the thread about it HERE.

I know that is not a very good solution for a place that will have to re-release all the covers. But is the best we will be able to do for now.

Maliboy:

The Rules tell you waht to do and you clearly understand the Rule. German law has absolutely NO impact on that, new released covers with the same UPC# will have tio be maintained LOCALLY only, and i will tell you to do exactly that if you have the re-released cover. I don't believe that german law requires the consumer to accept the new cover, even IF (which I doubt) that the law could force distrivutors to re-print EVERY cover released over the last 10 years and offer the new covers to the consumer, there will be those that will retain their ORIGINAL cover.

Until and if the day comes when Ken allows for multiple ciovers per UPC, the Rule is whatb it is and a change in German law changes nothing in that regard.

You are right, the law only says, that every cover for dvds which are buyable must be change in the store.
If I am informed right, new dvd's since 1. April must have this logo. Old dvd's (with covers without the new logo) must have the new Logo from 1. April 2010.
But the situation is much complicated because some studios will deliver dvds in future with two covers (one with logo and one without). So it is possible, that you get an new profile and the sender will scan the cover without logo but the cover in the stores have the logo.

I see, I must buy an scanner for this problem
