From the rules:
"If an actor is credited by name but does not have an associated role, you may use another source to identify the role. "

But my Banacek Season 2 contribution was rejected for using another source for the roles.

Let's be consistent, please.

I have made plenty of contributions this way.  All I do is state that the actors did not have roles credited, so I used other sources to get them.  It then list, at least, two of the sources I used.

It was declined because your comments said that you used IMDB for those shows that you hadn't watched. IMDB is not a valid source.

I'm sorry, Gerri, but I'm having a hard time finding where in the rules it excludes IMDB wholesale, or even where this particular rule states that "All other sources except IMDB must be used"

Also I should make it clear that the list of Cast and Crew were all from the DVD, only a few role names were checked against IMDB.  In most cases, that was only about four or five role names per episode.

There is an exception to this Rule as pointed out in Leiterfluid's first post:

Quoting the Rules:
Quote:

Nowhere in the Rules does it specifically exclude IMDb for this purpose.

Nor does it say that it is OK to use third party databases as a source..

Since the rules specifically prohibits use of third party databases in it's introduction, I read "another source" as anything but third party databases.

Please list for me "another source", readily available, that would not be a third party database.

And pray tell, where do you get SRP, release date and CoO data from?

The rules as written do not allow this submission.  From the submitted notes for this contribution: "IMDB was used only for those episodes I haven't watched yet".  The rules specifically state that the cast list must come from the DVD credits directly.  It allows the roles from another source, but not the cast list.  Therefore, the decline was per rules and stands.

The role issue is not related to this contribution decline, however it does require clarification.  I have added a specific clarification that should prevent confusion.

Thanks for the clarification in the rules Ken!

That is exactly how I understood it to mean. Normally when there is no role name I will just leave the role blank in profiler.

Thanks for the clarification, however, this restriction is going to make it very difficult to "document" the entry of rolenames that are not in the actual credits.

Perhaps we need to start a thread listing resources that are permissible and readily available to capture this data, which I believe to be very important!

From the top of my head: Another source would be to watch the Film itself and get the roles from there.
