With this new field I've seen a few R2 UK contributions going thru with this now being populated (and have done a couple myself), if you look on the rear of the cover you see the following example text

'Contains moderate fantasy battle violence and threat'

What is the accepted text, myself I've been following this exactly as shown, but have seen others that omit the word 'Contains'.

I would say not to omit any words.

As a follow up where should this information come from?

I notice that some R2 DVDs (some BBC releases through BBCWW and 2|entertain for example) include additional information such as "Contains very mild horror" but the BBFC, the official Ratings body, do not have this as Consumer Advice on their own website for the material.

Is this actually an official Rating description? Is it from the BBFC does anyone know?

Also, where the material is laid out under headings how do we handle this?

eg.
Theme/Other: Infrequent drug references
Language: None
Sex/Nudity: None
Violence: Some, mild

Actually an interesting point, I was assuming it was the additional comments posted on the DVD's next to the rating, I could be completely wrong with this assumption

From the Rules:

Quote:
Enter rating details as shown, excluding the rating itself and trailing period. e.g. "Rated R for sci-fi violence and brief language." is entered as "Sci-fi violence and brief language". Obtain the rating details in order of preference from:

    * DVD case, usually on the bottom rear
    * Rating page displayed on-screen
    * Filmratings.com, or the equivalent region-specific ratings information website

Bold by me... so in order of preference according to the rules would be
1. DVD Case
2. Ratings page display on-screen
3. filmratings.com (or such official sites)

So if the info is on the case take it from there first. If not then you go on down the line. If nothing at any of the 3 you just leave it blank.

Ahhhh, that makes sense now, OK from reading that I would assume on a R2 you would omit the 'Contains'?

Cheers!

Since when does the cover description "Rated x for" equals "Contains"?

Tricky, I guess it's down to interpretation about why you drop the 'Rated x for'. I'm quite happy to go along with the majority etc.

I asked this the other day and would still like to know how to input these as the field isn't long enough to take it all.

Stripping off the "for" or the "contains" leaves you with consistent data. I see the two words as equivalents to be discarded.

@Forget,
I would maybe try and get it into a sentence and ignore the "none" categories.
For example, I would write the one you posted as:
"Infrequent drug references, some mild violence"
I think that gets across what is there without straying too far from the original.

And I agree with Martin, "Rated x for" is not the same as "Contains" and I wouldn't drop it. We drop the "Rated x for" because it actually includes the rating, and we don't need that twice.
If ours said something like "This 18 film contains..." then I would see the logic, but it doesn't so I think we keep it.

Just to confirm with the majority... I assume this wouldn't go as far as copying the standrad description by the rating in the UK?
I mean a lot of discs now put "Parental Guidance, General viewing but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children" next to the PG rating which is just an explanation of what PG is, not additional rating reasons/info.

BTW, northbloke, that's what I had been doing (but hadn't contributed yet)

I would agree with that: if it's the bog-standard ratings description I haven't been including it.

Edit: though I have seen some submitted.

Thanks North.

And regarding the UK generic rating info, I've just had one declined so would currently say not to enter them.

That makes sense to me too.
