SKG are the initials of the founders:

Steven Spielberg
Jeffrey Katzenberg
David Geffen

Since this is not a suffix in the business way that LLC is, shouldn't this be included with the studio/distributor if it is presented that way on the box/disc.?

Yes, I presume it should.

And is it Dreamworks or DreamWorks?

It is DreamWorks, with a capital 'W'.  On a side note, we should make sure we don't get 'fooled' by their logo.  While the logo does include 'SKG', their credit usually doesn't.  In the credits, they are usually, 'DreamWorks Pictures' or 'DreamWorks Animation'.

Take Kungfu Panda 097361-392844

In the credit block it lists DREAMWORKS SKG, so this should be listed as DreamWorks SKG, correct?

Incorrect.  A lot of companies use the shorthand, or logo, version of their names in the credit block on the case.  If you watch the film, you will find that the opening credits read: "DreamWorks Animation presents."  Based on that, the correct entry would be, "DreamWorks Animation".

The Movie opening starts

FYI, DeramWorks and DreamWorks Animation are now two different companies and have been for awhile now. Why they used the SKG I can't tell you. DreamWorks is now totally Spielberg, Geffen is out and Katzenberg took DreamWorks Animation.

This is a logo, so I would use the actual name, DreamWorks Animation Home Entertainment.

Also a logo, disregard in favor of the actual credit.

Actual credit so, as I said in my previous post, this is the one to use.

In the company info section of their website they call themselves DreamWorks Animation SKG. I think that may be the proper name for that branch of the company.
As others have said though, DreamWorks Pictures does not include the SKG bit, and as far as I can tell, neither does DreamWorks Home Entertainment

Yes, that is their 'corporate name'.  If you read through their site, you will see that they only use that name when they are refering to the company.  When they refer to films and employees, they use 'DreamWorks Animation'.  Since that is the name they use in their credits, it should be the name that we use here.

Actually, DreamWorks Pictures still uses the SKG in their logo.

Well I'm confused now. I thought the point was to catalogue their full name, ie. their corporate name?
If we're not doing that, why aren't we just using as credited?

The idea is or should be catalog the Credited data from the FILM, not extraneous outside sources. Using outside sources,as opposed to real data from FILM is what causes CONFUSION.

No, the idea is to catalogue the production or studio name.  I will give you 2 examples:

Sony Pictures, Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems, TriStar Pictures, Destination Films and MG are all owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, Inc..  Sony Pictures Entertainment, Inc., is owned by Sony.  Which name should we credit?  The corporate name that they are all under or the individual studio name?

Universal Pictures is the poduction arm of Universal Studios...which is their corporate name.  Which do we enter?  The studio name, Universal Pictures, or the corporate name, Universal Studios?

From what I have seen in contributions, most people alread are.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

Those examples don't work here, they are all companies working under a parent company. Here DreamWorks Animation SKG is still a specific company whether you include the SKG or not.
If people had been arguing that we list them under DreamWorks LLC - the umbrella company as it were, I could see the logic of your examples, but we're not.
We're trying to decide: is the proper name for the company DreamWorks Animation or DreamWorks Animation SKG?

Edit: if people are already submitting "as credited", fine by me - but if that's the case we should remove the comment in the rules about "correct names for studios".
