| | Posted: | | | | I must confess that I wasn't that familiar with the U.S. television ratings that have been added to v3.5. I've browsed through this to get an idea, and I don't see any problems entering those "TV-PG" credits and so on. Just one quick question, though: any older TV-on-DVD release which does not have one of these new symbols but simply shows the standard "Not Rated" symbol, is now listed as "NR" under the "Film" rating system. Am I correct in thinking that we'll change all of these to "NR" under the "Television" rating system? |

So if the contributions I voted agains are still there, I'm going to change them from NO to YES. My original thought was that NR isn't a TV ratings -- but then again it isn't an "official" film rating, either.
The thing is, the set I voted against was The L Word: Season 3 (I believe). Unless I'm mistaken, I think The L Word is rated, however: TV-MA.
BTW: At the present time, most of the TV series in my collection are not rated, so I'll be adding a lot of NRs. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole)

A quick look found 3 different styles (only the Suggested 13 up format seems to be used by more then one studio). I'm calling them unrated as they seem to be unofficial and don't match the TV ratings.
I'm tempted to put the unofficial rating into the "rating details" box but I think a rule change would be required to allow that. | | | | Tom. |

You're right about what's on the cover. I think I'm remembering how the episodes were rated on Showtime when they first aired -- and maybe for a later season. I should probably do some research - like at TV Guide, which usually includes TV ratings, and the Showtime web site. I'm pretty sure they were rated on Showtime, but the DVD -- even the current set (Season 5) still shows "Not Rated." I don't understand why broadcast/cablecast ratings aren't carried over to the DVDs. I wonder if the V-Chip thingy works on the DVDs the way it's supposed to on broadcast or cable. The last I read these TV Ratings are still optional even though virtually all shows use them on TV. I started to see them come over to DVDs a little a 2 or 3 years ago... a release here and a release there type thing. But as the years went by I am seeing them on more and more DVDs. I think the first DVD set I ever seen it on was the original release of Sports Night: The Complete Series which was released 6 years ago!  | | | | Pete |
