Hey all! I'm sure you're probably sick of answering the newbie questions from those migrating from DVDSpot  , but I need a bit of help 'cause I don't think I'm fully grasping everything here.    My apologies in advance for the length of this post (as some members from DVDSpot know, I'm a wordy bastard....)

I recently made two submissions, both of which were declined. One, I think I've got a grasp on why it was declined, it was a new entry and I think there's some incorrect info in it (and I don't think I left good enough notes).

The second was updates to an existing DVD. 88 Minutes. UPC 043396-277403.

The updates I added were slip cover, cast & crew and front and back cover.

The notes I left were: Added slip cover to case type, took Cast and Crew directly from the film's end credits. Uploaded front and back cover art.

Looking at my contributions page, there were no yes or no votes, it simply says declined for both Profile Status and Image Status.

The disc does have a slip cover (not sure how to verify that other than I can tell you it has one because I'm looking at it), I took the Cast and Crew directly from the credits (and not a third source as I see everyone and their dog being warned against  ) and scanned in the front and back covers myself. Since there is no yes or no votes, I'm left a little puzzled as to why the submission was declined. Was it simply my lack of a better note?

Also, why would a submission be declined before having any yes / no votes attributed to it? If the yes / no votes are helpful suggestions, shouldn't some votes be cast before a submission being declined?

Next question. I was going through the other versions of 88 Minutes just now and actually saw one version out of all of them that has the correct info for all categories (except the cover scan 'cause I'm from Canada so it's got the french stuff on it). Is there a way to just clone the specific categories that need updating? I know you can clone an entire disc and change the UPC to add that specific one to your collection, but how do you take certain aspects from one dvd with correct info, and input them into another dvd?

Next question (sorry). I know that the system runs on a basis of yes / no votes and those votes come from the users. Where on earth is it that I vote yes / no to changes? I look at the Database > Contributions > Unvoted Pending Updates (and the other categories there) and there's never anything there. I have paid the subscription fee, which as far as I can tell, enables me to vote yes / no, but I can't figure out where to do this. Not that I would jump in right away without understanding the entire process, but at least I could take a peak if I could figure out where it was.

Second last question. Who actually approves and declines submissions? Are there the equivalent of what DVDSpot had as editors? A select few who go through the submissions? Or if a submission has too many no votes it just gets declined? (Or accepted with yes votes).

Last Question. The offline program that holds all your info. Is there a way I can actually get the last watched date to display somewhere on the page instead of having to go into each disc individually and check the view history? One of the things I liked about DVDSpot was you could sort your collection by watched date, so I could simply flip to the pages of discs that hadn't been watched and make a selection from there. Having to go in and check every disc to see the last time I watched it seems time confusing and a complicated way of doing things. If I could at least simply click on the film and see a watched date, I could continue along my merry way to the next dvd.

I know I have more questions, but the newbie nerves are getting to me and I'm forgetting some.    I have done a search on the non-specific personal decline topics, but couldn't find anything to answer my questions, so my apologies if I missed something obvious.

Thanks guys & gals!
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

That's a lot of questions!

If you get no votes on a submission, you are able to dig deeper to see the comments left by people (required when you vote no).  They're there, you just need to look for them.  That's usually good enough to tell you where you went wrong.

If you click on a contribution, you should see buttons before and after the data where you can vote yes, no or neutral.  If you're not seeing those, then perhaps you're no on the right page.  You should also see the details of the changes, not just the notes.  I suspect you're on the wrong page.  If you see a list of titles to vote on, click on one of the titles and you should see the details and voting buttons.

Last I heard, there was a single person who approves contributions.  Sometimes she makes mistakes.  So be gentle with her. She's Ken's wife.  And Ken is the guy who wrote the program.

To get the last watched date, right click on the collection list, go to View Columns, pick Last Watched.  Now that it's listed, you can click on the header to sort on that column.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection.

Many thanks on the comments and answers! Quick follow up to this one. This only works when I have my collection set on "view as list". I currently have my collection set on "view as details", for which it doesn't allow you to right click. I kind of like the look of details better as it's got the mini-cover image, release date, director, featuring etc. etc. Do you know if there's a way to get the last watched date to show anyway on the page when your collection is set to this?

If not, it's not a big deal at all as I can alternate between the two views to see the last watched date of the dvds.

And just wanted to say, a big many thanks to Skip. He took it upon himself to help walk me through a bunch of stuff and elaborate on some details that I just wasn't wrapping my mind around. He helped clear up a bunch of questions I had and make some fuzzy issues a little clearer for me. Totally above and beyond the call of duty so to speak, and it was very, very much appreciated!

Have you checked that your locality, EAN and Currency is correct - these are the most common errors.

Votes are a guideline for Gerri (our lovely screener); but are not required for her to make a decision. Totally new submissions will not get votes because they will not be in the database yet.

With the new 3.5 Profiler you will be able to copy/paste specific information from disc to disc. Until then you can copy cast and crew using right click copy/paste.

Where on earth is it that I vote yes / no to changes?

First you will need to upload your collection to the online database. Once you have done that you will be able to vote on contributions for any disc in your collection. You will find the voting screen exactly where you described it.

Hope this helps a bit.

I don't believe I did, no, but I also didn't submit changes for those. Is the entire DVD reviewed when just a few categories are submitted for changes? After I enter a bit more of my collection, I'm going to go back through and look to see what needs updating. I'll be sure to check out those sections when I do so. Thanks for the suggestion!

And this is where I feel like a moron!  As Skip also explained, I wasn't understanding properly and was under the impression that you voted yes / no on any contributions made instead of just the discs in your collection, which absolutely makes more sense! I had only uploaded six dvds from my collection when I posted this, so the chances of me seeing a contribution were slim.

Ohhhhhhh, so that's why I haven't seen any submissions to vote on for awhile. I didn't put two-and-two together that all those titles I voted on last week just happened to be stuff I also owned.

You have to put all the new coming and older discs in wish list to have that happen...

That is why Skip has sooo  many titles..,,  .

Oh, so you can vote yes / no on titles in your wishlist as well? I think Skip went over that briefly with me as well and apparently I still didn't catch on. I'm totally batting zero so far  , but yay, no more questions at the moment!

Yes you ..'could' vote  on your wish list  , BUT  for some things such as run times,, or disc id.,, you don't actually have the disc to compare with.., BUT you do have the option for cover scans comparability, crew and cast (via other links supplied), and over view spellcheck.. etc.. to compare and supply a yes/no vote .
In most cases if in doubt'  just click on the tab neutral .

For the benefit of our new users, NEUTRAL votes are not recorded on line and aren't counted.  What the NEUTRAL vote does is flag that contibution so it no longer appears as an "Unvoted Pending Update."  Essentially it's a way of making sure you don't have to look at that contribution again.
