| Posted: | | | | I have been manualiy updating all the crew and actor text on my collection and I am repeatidly having to go back and forth to IMDB to obtain the required info. Is there a way to include a shortcut to IMDB,say at the top in the toolbar. 2. If my collection is backed up in the profiler files at Invelos do I still have to back them up before downloading the new version Profiler 3 Thankyou Paul |

| Posted: | | | | there is a shortcut but you should not take the information from IMDB if you want to contribute your data in the online database, if you do this for yourself localy this is for you but never contributed these data to the online database: The authoritative source for information submitted should be the DVD itself. Please don't submit content from a third party databaseyou can ad the IMDB link yourself to the toolbar: right click on toolbar small windows opens - filters - default - personal - layout - extras mark the extras select now customize select in the toolbars: extra go now to the middle tab: commands select there in categories: online in the commands scroll down to the IMDB icon right click hold it and drag it to the blanc toolbar extras and drop it. that should be it. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. | Posted: | | | | I would suggest you read the rules regarding the use of 3rd party data in DVD Profiler. It is expressly prohibited to mine cast & crew data from IMDb due to copyright issues. You can do this at your own risk for your local database but for contribution to the Invelos database this practice is unacceptable.
BTW, there is already an Icon on the toolbar in DVD Profiler for IMDb that will search their database for the selected title. If it is not on your toolbar, right click the toolbar and choose customise, select the Commands tab and choose "Online". You will find the icon for IMDb there. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | For contribution purposes you can only take the cast and crew info from the beginning and end of the film/series. That is all the RULES allow for. IF you want to contribute please familiarize yourself with all the RULES. And be sure to document where such info is coming from... for all changes/additions. If you don't... even if the info is correct you can very easily get your contribution declined. Invelos has gotten pretty tough on that. | | | Pete |

In each case, list Actor’s names and roles (when given) exactly as they are in the credits and in exactly the same order credited.

Thankyou Paul EDIT: Giga Wizard types faster than I do. To amplify what he said: What everyone has been saying is to use the end credits or opening credits for the film/TV show on DVD to get info on the artists and crew. It takes a little work, and you have to watch the credits closely so that the data you retrieve is spelled as it is on screen (which is what the rules tell us to do). Sometime the credits don't provide the name of the character an actor plays. In this case you may use a third party to get the character name. Not the actor's name, since you are required to use the name from the film credits. But you MAY use a third party source to get the name of the character if it isn't specified in the actual film credits. Just be warned that the data from that third party source may not be correct. This is especially true for data in IMDB -- which is notorious for being incomplete or outright incorrect. When you use a character name from a source other than the actual film credits you are expected to identify what source you used if you contribute that profile to the online database. Actually you are expected to identify the source even if you use the film credits, but in that case you need say only something like "Cast from film credits as credited." | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges?
