| | Posted: | | | | I recently submitted a bunch of cover scans. Many people pointed out that they looked washed out. I have gone through all the original scans and removed the washed out look by changing the contrast and brightness levels of the scans. I'm wondering if I should resubmit all the scans that haven't been updated since my last submission? |

The problem with re-editing jpegs is this further degrades the image file adding more noise and compression artifacts into the image. The only way to fix that is to tweek it in a photo app. I don't have anything fancy. Just GIMP. Overall I thought they looked a little better and made a better match with the majority of other scans when I scrolled through my collection.
I figured I would submit them and see what others thought. |

Usually when i scan covers i do the basic rotate cropping stuff, and then i use histogram to get rid of the "washed out" look. Dont know where you can find it in Gimp, or if that was what you used. But if you didnt use, definately check it out, quick searcch from the help file should tell you where to find the tool. Naturally everyone uses diffrent monitors with diffrent settings, but thats the only way to get it as close to the original as possible. I have given the suggestion in the past, that you should be as specific as possible in your notes. Point out items where the screeners and voters can see the differences. For example, if you improved the colors, be specific about something to look at on the cover that looks significantly different from one cover to the other.
