| | Posted: | | | | Ok, so last night while adding some links I came across a movie that had an incorrect production year (I know this is actually first theatrical release). I submitted it along with documentation and have gotten no push back yet. Every source (7 of them) all agree (2 even give the day and month and they agree)
I've just come across a second profile with the same situation, however I have found a few sources that agree with what is currently in the system and a few that have the year later (its probably more sources for the year later). Whats a good source for theatrical release date/year and what kind of documentation do you think should be provided to change this?
I think this will become more of an issue since clicking the picture on the link page does a google search for title and production year. and if the production year in the invelos database is different than other movie sites it limits the results returned or gives different movies with the same name, essentially pointing out the 'wrong' data.

| | Posted: | | | | production year is still a problem even the big players in the market don't seem to agree: IMDB, Rotten Tomatos, reviewers, they don't seem to agree even on titles: international english, USA English, UK English, ... its a big mess out there. (IMDB gets even worse with it's foreign titles that even don't make any sense (made up to the interpretation of the submitter (French Canadian, Asian to ones believe how it should be Westernised, ...) | | Posted: | | | | It's a big mess out there? Like our database is any different... At least some of them get it right and call it release date, not production year.  Oh how simple life would be if there was one definitive and undisputed source for everything. But there isn't, so we'll just have to use our own best judgment. In most cases you can paint a pretty good picture by looking at actor's bios, studio sites and other sources (don't forget offline sources like old movie magazines, movie encyclopedia's etc. if you happen to have any from the time period) and compare them to what's listed in the online databases.
