| | Posted: | | | | I bought a CD from Walmart that came packaged with a bonus DVD, exclusive only to Walmart. The DVD is in it's own separate, DVD-sized digipak. The DVD has no UPC and again, it's not available anywhere else, separately or packaged with the CD. Should I add the DVD to the database using the UPC from the CD or with the disc ID? |

It was special packaging, the DVD and CD are two separate items bundled together in plastic packaging. If there was a special UPC it was on the packaging which I've already thrown away. If you bought the CD at another store the DVD would not be included and the UPC on the CD would presumably be the same. So this is a little different than what is normally the case when a CD is released that happens to have a DVD included as part of the normal release... |

Had you not already thrown away the bundle packaging that would have been the UPC to use. Since the UPC for the CD is only good for the CD itself your only option is to use the DiscID of the DVD. | | | Are you local?

I don't kow if this answers your question or not, or whether 13-digit EANs are handled the same way as 12-digit UPCs, but UPCs in the US for most (if not all) products seem to follow the pattern 0 00000 00000 0 (the last 0 being a checksum digit). For example, I have in my hand a package of adhesive bandages and the UPC is 0-51131-65289-7. I don't know if Profiler would know that this UPC is not for a DVD. I suspect not and I suppose I could submit a phantom DVD with that UPC and as long as the last digit was a correct checksum digit Profiler would probably accept it. So if you still have the package with the UPC on it, I think you COULD contribute the DVD profile using that. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole)
