What would your answer have been if I had gotten there first with the child level profiles -- i.e., before the "Complete Series" set was released.

That's an interesting point. In fact when I said it should remain season level, I assumed that the profile had got there first because it had been released first.
However it only occurred to me now that it's just as likely (probably even more likely) that the individual seasons were released first, in which case technically the disc-level profiles take priority as they were first released.
However I stand by my "season profile" choice, mainly for the same reasons as Hal. The disc-level profiles may exist according to the rules, but the season-level profile must exist for the complete series to be profiled correctly. It's also easier to delete info than add it, so converting a season-level profile to a disc-level profile is a lot easier than the reverse, so would probably keep both camps relatively happy.
I think Skip's right also - this is going to become more and more common, soon we're really going to need to be able to have multiple profiles on UPCs/IDs.
