The example shown above does, for me, not "suggest a divider" (as I mentioned in my previous post). It would need an actual "header" for this, as someone said just a few posts up.

Agreeably, if the band is fictional, the role should not say himself/herself....

While I can live with the majority decision of my poll, I do not understand why for instance it's commonly accepted to change the plural "Dancers" to the singular "Dancer", but changing "Band" to "Band Member" suddenly becomes a problem.

Because you're adding a word that's not in the credits. In the "dancers" example you're simply changing plural to singular. Had the credits said "Band Members" then "band member" would have been fine.

It's a change, anyway.

As others have pointed out: if this was a real band, using a band name divider with the members as themselves underneath would seem like an appropriate method.
The problem would be that you need another divider to "end" to group and continue with the casts in this case Billy Idol as Billy Idol.

btw: is Billy Idol a himself-cast or do I really have to write Billy Idol as Billy Idol (not that I ever would edit nor contribute cast info)

I voted for "Something Else".

Use of dividers, if the credits suggest it, is fine with me, but I would always add the role according the divider, only modified to remove plurals.

I totally agree with you, but I voted "Use Divider and Use Group Name for Role".
I thought "remove plurals"  was somehow implicit, am I wrong?

Quote:
This option:
Use Divider and Use Group Name for Role followed by "Member"
does not represent that properly. Adding "Member" is adding non-existent data and may not always be appropriate.

Indeed. If it were a group of, say, soldiers, adding "member" wouldn't even be appropriate.

EDIT:
Hmmm, I voted according the thread title, rather than the opening post. If we are talking about a band appearing in the film, then I would do it as suggested by Rick.

Indeed, that makes the poll a bit confusing, as the opening post introduces elements somehow different than those in the thread title and in the poll options.

Oh, I missed that option somehow.

Changed my vote, remaining my comment about the removal of plurals.

The poll refers to Role Names of Cast Groups which can not be made singular by for instance removing a "s" at the end (which is in fact not as credited too just like adding "Member" as a suffix or using "Himself" or "Herself"). If we all want to be consistent (and follow the rules), we should never "invent" individual roles which aren't there out of group or plural names.

It's very simple:

Most of us agree to use "Dancer", "Soldier" (or whatever) as a single role when part of the cast are grouped together with "Dancers" or "Soldiers" as a header in the credits.

But there are also group names like "Band" or "Choir" which can not be made singular that easy, so we have to add "Member" or use "Himself" or "Herself".

The last "problem" is what the poll is about.

In that case, my preference remains "as credited". I don't really see much advantage in changing a "Choir" credit for a group of people to "Choir Member" in DVD Profiler - just "Choir", or "Band" for that matter, suits me fine. I have no problem changing "Dancers" and "Soldiers" to the singular form of "Dancer" and "Soldier", but I feel that group names like "Band" or "Choir" should remain unchanged.

Personally I feel that removing a "s" or adding "Member" should not make any difference since they are both not as credited.

True, but one is 'less' as credited than the other.  One simply removes a single letter, the other adds data that doesn't exist.  I know it is a very fine line but that seems to be the concensus.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.
