I read the pinned topic on Chinese/HK Actor names.  After reading that thread i'm confident only of my ignorance in this matter.

I'm updating The Red Violin (025192067624) and reordering the cast credits to match the closing credits.  The credits are divided into sections based on where that part of the story took place.  The section from Shanghai lists the actors shown below.  In most cases the credited names are swapped (family <-> given i presume) from what is in Profiler.

The credits in DVDp are from IMD* (the same order and spelling errors in roles) and i can find the actors names with the Credit Lookup Tool spelled both ways.  And since most of these actors only credit is this movie it doesn't help in this case.

            AS CREDITED
IN FILM                  IN DVDp
Liu Zi Feng                Liu Zifeng
Tao Hong                  Hong Tao
Cao Kun Qi                Kun Qi Cao
Han Xio Fei              Xio Fei Han
Tan Zeng Wei          Zheng Wei Tan
Zhou Zhi Qing          Zhi Qing Zhou
Wang Xiaoshuai        Xiaoshuai Wang
Qiao Zhi                  Zhi Qiao
Tang Ren                Rei Yang
Zhang Kai                Kai Zhang

The question is: which form is "right"?  Should i simply use the names on screen "as credited" or are the existing forms correct and should i "Credit As"?

Our credits need to appear as they do in the film

Tao Hong is correct for Profiler, if you want to use Hong Tao (Tao Hong) that should be OK

I took this as a given.

Since both forms of most of these names are in the DB i'd like to get the right 'form' as the base name.  If i get some good direction on that i'll use it.  Otherwise i'll list them as credited.

I would agree with you on that As Credited is where we start from, perhaps it simply needs to be brought to the baseline FIRST and then let those with the Cultural background and probably better sources for documentation make the Credited As adjustments.
