Hi,

I have a bunch of DVD's that I do not have the UPC for and are coming up under title search.  How can I add them?  I found one method, but that will not allow me to contribute them, is there anything that I can do?  Just wondering at this point.

Thanks.

What kind of DVDs are they?  Were they released without UPCs?

If they are coming up under the title search, as you say, and match your DVD, you can add them... Just make sure that "Download profile from Invelos" is selected.

They could be ones issued with partworks magazines.

If they're commercially available discs then add them using Disc ID - that way will allow you to contribute the profiles.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay, sick kid.  Yes they are all legal DVD, i just do not have the case anymore, they have been in a DVD changer (Sony 400 disc system) and we discarded the case.  My question was if the program does not recognize the disk and it is not in the title search what is the BEST METHOD of adding them, so that I could also try and contribute them for others to possibly download.

I do have plenty of disks that I made by recording childrens programs on my PC then creating DVDs but I of course do not expect anything anywhere to understand that disk.

by disc-id (add inserted disc)

Since DVD Profiler does not recognize your disc ids (they are not currently in the database), title search brings up nothing and you don't have the cases to enter them by UPC/EAN, then you will have to add by Disc ID and create the profiles yourself. After completing the profiles you can contribute the titles making sure all sources are well documented in your contribution notes.

Well it's up to Ken but should we be creating disc id records where the reason for the lack of a UPC is that the case has been thrown away?

What happens when someone else tries to contribute those same DVDs by UPC?

We already have a duplicate scenario where titles are released as individual releases and then added to boxsets, where you have to add by disc id.

As far as I'm aware this causes no issues, just duplicate data, it just doesn't seem right to me to duplicate data when it's not due to the way the disc is released.

Then they enter them by UPC/EAN. What's the problem?

It seems odd to me to enter something by disc id when technically it shouldn't need to be done this way, it's effectivley 'user error' that has caused them to enter it by disc id.

Like I say Ken and Gerri as screeners ultimately decide if they're happy for this.

I agree, if the reason he's got no UPC is he has thrown it away they should not be contributed to the main database by disc-id. Disc-ID profiles are meant for releases that have no UPC, not for duplicating every single profile.
