I own a few DVDs that come out of the DVD player and into the TV kind of odd. (The Graduate, Scotland, PA, and the Buzz Lightyear cartoon come to mind.) For example, the output (from my DVD player) for The Graduate is an aspect ratio of 4:3. The movie is also letterboxed at 2.35:1, so I get the effect of having a box around the entire movie.
I don't think I have anything set up incorrectly. (It happens on both theater set-ups in the house.) 98% of the movies I have play correctly. Is this a function of how the DVDs were manufactured? Is there anyway to tell the DVD is going to do this other than popping it in the player?

| | Posted: | | | | I was going to mention that perhaps your DVD player is set on zoom, till I read that 98% of your films play properly., as far as I know ( I'd have to check after this post is done, ) is the movie of the ( i.e.) Graduate is only available in W/S and not pan and scan, so first things first. what are the UPC's of the DVD's effected this way?

| | Posted: | | | | If you check on the packaging for these "problem" disks, I suspect you will find no mention of they're being Anamorphic. Non-anamorphic widescreen material will do this on a widescreen television. |

The only solution is to use a zoom feature on your player/TV, replace them with anamorphic versions or suck it up and ignore the problem. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.

| | Posted: | | | | If you have a DVD, um, examiner - take a peek at the DVD and see if it's 4:3 aspect ratio. A lot of the older movies were letterbox in 4:3 format. |

Rink There are settings within your DVD player that allows you to chnage the output of the signal to your TV to 4:3 and not 16:9.., That should create the letterbox bars around the playback movie. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird.
