| Posted: | | | | I no nothing about these devices, i have just received a Dell Axim X5 i purchased off ebay and can't get DVD Profiler Moble to install. I get an error message that the "cab" file isn't a valid CE file. Here is a link to my moble device providing info on it.
http://www.mobiletechreview.com/dell_axim_x5.htm
Before i purchased this unit i read the readme.txt file from DVD Profiler Mobile to make sure the unit i bought was supported. According to the link above the unit was supposed to ship with Pocket PC 2002 but this was changed to Windows mobile 2003 which is still ok according to the readme.txt file. Dispite this DVD Profiler reports the connected device isn't supported.
Please advise
David

Good Luck. |

| Posted: | | | | I don't know how to install anything on the PDA. I have downloaded MS Active Sync 4.5 and installed it on the desktop PC and installed Dvd Profiler 3.03 on the desktop PC. I have also downloaded the DVD Profiler Mobile setup program ( 5.91 MB ) and installed it on my desktop PC. When i run DVD Profiler Mobile setup i have MS Active Sync connected to the PDA however i don't know what version of active sync is installed on the PDA, does it matter?
When i get connected with active sync and run DVD Profiler Mobile it attempts to install Microsoft.NET CF 2.0 onto the PDA. I get a message on the desktop pc after my attempt to install Microsoft.NET CF 2.0 that reads "Application Downloading Complete" "Please check your moblile device screen to see if any additional steps are necessary to complete this installation" and when i check the PDA screen i am presented with an error on it "SETUP FAILD" " The file "\Windows\Appmgr\Install\Microsoft.NET CD 2.0\CAB" is not a valid Windows CE setup file.
After i select OK on the PDA and then go back to desktop message that told me to check the mobile device screen and select ok there i get a new message on my Desktop PC that reads "Unsupported Device Type" Invelos Software, INC DVD Profiler Mobile does not support the connected device type. Application manager will make the application available for installation when a supported device type is connected. | | | My collection PHPdvdProfiler Custom edited ( Matrix theme )

| Posted: | | | | Sound like two possible issues:
1. Frst have you tried to completely uninstall CF.net from your PDA and then try to reinstall? Also try to "soft" reset you PDA. This will not damage any data it is like rebooting your PC.
2 Finally your PDA might not be working with Active Sync 4.5. Try going to the Dell web site and downloading the lastest ROM version upgrade. This will completely "reimage" your PDA and all data will be lost. This should be a last resort but I have seen "bad" ROM's on PDA's right out of the box.
I hate to say anything bad about e-Bay, but unless this was new and still in the shrink wrap box then it might be another reason it was on e-bay. someone might have wanted to get some money out of their trashed hardware.
Again, good luck. I will watch this thread for updates, keep us posted. |

The above link states how this unit was supposed to ship with pocket PC 2002 and instead shipped with "Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC " . On dells support site for this unit they have ROM updates for units running OS "pocket pc 2002" and updates for units running Pocket PC 2003. Here is a llink to their site. Maybe if i am running the wrong version of windows mobile i can get the ROM image for Pocket PC 2002.

Note on thier site how you can change your "operating system" selection. Tell me what you thing i should do as i know nothing about using these devices.

| Posted: | | | | I was just wondering if you had an Axim that was shipped with 2003 or one that has had a ROM upgrade. I had one of those in those years, it came with 2002 and after I upgraded to 2003 I had a few things that didn't work very well.
What I think here is that when ActiveSync tries to install the .NET Framework it doesn't properly read what OS you have and tries to install in incorrect version. What I would do is find the correct .NET 2.0 Framework and install it myself. Then when you install DVDP Mobile, active synd should see that .NET is there and no try to install it again or at least prompt for confirmation before overwriting, to which I would say NO and let DVD installs. | | | My 4x4 Club: Club FJ Cruiser Quebec DVDP Français: Forum DVD Profiler Français DVDCOL:DVD Collectors Online Video: LG RU-42PX10 Audio: Sony DreamSystem DAVFX100W |

Thats exactly what i've been looking for, funny you should suggest it. There seem to be many versions of it too. I just download one that was 38 MB and it didn't work so now i'm working on this version and its description seems to match.
I just got this device on ebay, i've only had it for 1 day now. Sure hope i can get it working. I bought it just for Profiler Mobile. | | | My collection PHPdvdProfiler Custom edited ( Matrix theme )

Since it's new, if you still haven't put anything in it that you can't lose, I suggest you start with a hard-reset. That will guarantee you that you're working with a clean memory. This device is too old to be new, there could be a lot of "crap" in there. | | | My 4x4 Club: Club FJ Cruiser Quebec DVDP Français: Forum DVD Profiler Français DVDCOL:DVD Collectors Online Video: LG RU-42PX10 Audio: Sony DreamSystem DAVFX100W |

I didn't think to search the net for the build version to determine if i had Pocket PC 2002 or WM 2003. As it turns out i did have Pocket PC 2002 which runs ActiveSync V3.71 . There was an update for the X5 to take it to WM 2003 but was removed by Dell, however i manage to find it on Ebay for download and now i'm running WM 2003. Oddly enough WM 2003 runs V3.71 thru 4.5. I updated my OS and the install went fine and WOW what an amazing tool, hats off to Invelos. Thanks for all the help guys... | | | My collection PHPdvdProfiler Custom edited ( Matrix theme )

| Posted: | | | | Glad to hear it is now working. Had a feeling it was an Active Sync issue with the current OS on your PDA.
Also, congrats on getting your feet wet in the PDA world. If used to it's full potential you can become best of friends with your PDA. Just remember to do a backup via Active Snyc at least once a week.
There are also some great games you can put on your PDA, for those times when the meetings at work are just tooooo boring. LOL

| Posted: | | | | I have tried installing this on my Toshiba E350. I tried going back to the original version of active sync (3.7) and it still fails. I have tried the latest version of active sync as well. I keep getting that CF 2.0 wasn't designed to run on my device. I've just about given up trying to run Mobile. Thanks for everybodies help. |
