Oh and currently, 5 of the images showing in my sig are my blu-ray covers.

Sound to me like a good reason to include a blu-ray banner.
From your sig, I only see Pirates as blu-ray editions.

The two Pirates movies are special, they have cardboard slipcovers. And very purty they are too!

It could have just as correctly said
Yes - Continue with the current method of handling this
instead of the negative way you put it:
Yes - Even though it's a violation of the current rules, add the banners. We can rewrite the rules later.

Or even better
Use the banner:
Yes
No
Neutral

Talk about trying to taint the voters

Did I misrepresent anything? The rules are pretty clear on this.

Dan... they're not "custom made" - read the previous thread at the very least.  And you never answered my question, a big surprise.

But why do I care if they are dvd or blu-ray? dvdprofiler tells me what they are, so I don't need the cover.

Perhaps someone should create an image header for 'dvd' so we should also attach that to the top of all dvd covers.

I think I have around 30 HD DVDs. I voted Yes to continue with they way we're doing it.

Yes, you did. The rules are actually silent on including parts of the case in the image.

Regardless, for HD formats, the top of the case is part of the cover. You will see the top of the case represented in the images of any e-tailer. It's a change from the way DVDs were marketed and DVD Profiler needs to change with it. I've not seen any reviewer or other collection software that removes the top banner. It's the industry standard to include it.

Also, there is currently no data in DVD Profiler Mobile to indicate format type other than the cover.

I voted No.  Although I have yet to invest in a HD format...

Why did you vote?

phpdvdprofiler seems to answer most of my concerns.
Maybe I'll change opinion if I start using it.

Deja vu!

"If you notice in 3.0.1, Blu-ray and/or HD DVD is no longer "prominently" marked in the profile, now that there is a "Media Type" choice.  The "Media Type" choice doesn't carry over to the online "My Profiler" data base - unless you continue to put the Blu-ray or HD DVD  name in the "Edition" section (previously called "Desc." in 2.4 DVD Profiler), which most people are no longer doing.

Without it being designated in the on-line "My Profiler" data base, only the picture with the Blu-ray/HD DVD logo on it will let people know that it is an HD disc.

Paul"

Thank you James. I wasn't aware of that

That fact in itself is reason enough for the covers to continue to show the banner. (At least IMO and hopefully Ken's)

My Vote is yes.

I have contributed well over 100 HD disc covers - HD DVD, Combos and Blu-ray.

My opinion here is that this thread was started with a BIASED negative slant if you would vote yes, which should invalidate the purpose here.

I voted No.  If we choose to include the banner, there are two ways to do it.  One would be to scan the case.  I think that will produce crappy looking scans unless someone is very skilled.  The other option would be to manipulate the scanned image to add the banner.  That is simply putting a larger workload on those who are doing the work to scan the images in to begin with.  Not all of us are good with image manipulation to begin with and this will only scare people away.  I know I myself would need someone to walk me through the process of adding a banner to a scanned image.

My assumption was that DVD Profiler should have the best scans that can be made.  If having good scans will "scare people", then MHO would be that they don't have to contribute.  I don't think the main database is intended for people to learn or take their turn for fun.

Personally, I want my collection to look as professional as it can and I believe Ken would agree.  People should go LOCAL, if they want to have fun, like in a hobby.

I voted yes.  I have a lot of HD DVDs, and they just looked wrong without the banner.  It's nice to be able to tell at a glance if it's HD or not.

The current rules are not written to allow the addition of the "banners". The poll states that clearly.

There is a lot of discussion about this lately and whether we add banners or not, we need to get something in the rules to cover this.

If you want them the vote yes, if not, vote no.

After this we get to go write two different rules (or more if need be) and see which way folks want to go on the written rule. After that, we give it to Ken and he makes the final decision.

We need to write something that covers this issue specifically because it is a continuing debate. One thing I wonder about is, what happens when the manufacturers change the cases? Are we expected to add banners from now on regardless of the new case types which come along?

Personally, I think using the description field is a better choice for this information.

I voted yes for the following reasons....

1) Mobile Profiler does not do a good job at telling you what is HD and what is not.

2) I own 20 Blu Ray movies, and everytime I see a cover shot released to the press, the banner is on the image.

3) The banner is being included on the slip covers from Disney, so they want them as part of the case. They just are using different cases than they used for DVD.

There are other reeasons, but we need not go into them yet.

If people don't want to add the banner, that's up to them. Who cares if it is more work for the people that want to do the more work? I don't really care if it taakes me longer to add a banner, I'll be happy to do it.

Dan, all thsis willl do is give people a rule that allows them to crop the slip covers of  Disney's BR releases. Sonce they have the banner, they will be removed. Just wait.
