Maybe... but if you look at your own page you'll see your location has become "Amsterdam, Denmark".

No one outside Europe can tell Denmark and Holland apart anyway.

Right! I wonder how many americans think Denmark is the capital of Holland, which is an Australian province...

I'll never forget when a Senior in High School asked my German girlfriend; "which part of France is Germany in" ?????

Heh... It's not only americans, though. A few years ago I was on Rhodes and ran in to a young chinese couple. Don't know what they were doing there, it was kind of the last place on earth I expected to see chinese people...

Anyway, the girl then asks me where I'm from, and when I said Denmark, the gut lit up and said "aaahhhh, Germany!" He actually thought Denmark was the capital of Germany...

Americans can be frightfully stupid about everywhere except the USA (and sometimes as stupid about the USA as well), but I'm certain the rest of the world has as high a percentage of people who are fightfully stupid about America and other countries/continents away from their homes.

Recent Australian couple in my store: "I thought Los Angeles was the capital of California..."

Hong Kong native on where he was travelling next: "I'm going down to Seattle."

English family on vacation: "Denver's just a quick few hours drive, isn't it?"

We all have many blind spots when it comes to lands outside our own. Some of us study this stuff & know better, but the majority of humans know our neighborhoods fairly well, but little elsewhere. I'm still trying to figure out how long a drive it is from Hilo to Kona...
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Kona? Is that a typo for Konia? Or is there a place called Kona?

I was poking at the US American's because I am one of them

But, you are all correct, the problem does exist everywhere......

I have won so many cases of beer about the number of US states.  Most Germans say that we have 52 states, 51 and 53 come up, but never 50!  And none of them will believe me, they must also look it up.
And they still don't pay up  .

and for the record to my German friends......  I don't go around asking this question, it is just something that comes up all the time.....  me being the only US American in the area.....

ps....  how many of you are googling this right now ???

I think we should have sub-flags!!!

That way we can know which state/region, etc. we live in!!

And then sub-sub-flags for cities and towns!!!1

(Okay, I need to take some drugs to calm down now, I know)

I'm glad I started this thread.

Thanks, Ken, for implementing it - and to whomever else contributed images, etc.

Sorry, but Puerto Rico is the defacto 51st state.
