Now that we have the (legitimate) ability to view other's votes, how do you feel about voters making unsolicited contact with other voters about their votes? I've seen different opinions expressed.

On the plus side, it's just a list of names.  There's no "simple" way to send a PM to someone on the list.  Of course that won't stop the determined user, but it will at least slow them down.

As for the PM issue, I don't mind them in general.  Sometimes it's helpful if someone points out that you've overlooked something.  We also have the ability to block PMs.  So I voted don't care.  But it would also be nice if PM privledges could be suspended or revoked if someone abuses the system.  But that's really a Ken issue.

Perhaps now we can see the votes, PM's may be unnecessary??

As an aside, I like leaving messages with my votes

Correct, Mark on all counts. I am not one who BELIEVES that I am infallible though we have a lot of users who believe they are. I encourage any user who believes I have erred to contact me, that has been my position and will always be my position. If I have erred I will change my vote appropriately, and not simply change it to neutral as I have noted from some, a neutral does not help prevent bad data from finding its way into the database. If I happen to disagree with your assessment we can discuss it, simple and painless for me. For me it comes down to one thing. I CARE about the quality of the data in the database and I see a LOT of users who in my estimation don't care, which is why they get their noses all bent out of joint, they don't like being called on a mistake.

I find this to be true of Contributors as well, some have an "how dare you tell me I am wrong" attitude.

I simply find it's not polite to contact somebody about a vote except when you are the contributor. The note field of your own vote is information enough.

That might be true, Rho, but oftentimes I am not permitted because of space issues to be absolutely clear in my comments. The forced brevity sometimes causes fogginess. I don't like to use shorthand, since my shorthand is MY shorthand and therefore might not be translatable to you the Contributor or another user.

Not only that Rho, but do you go back and monitor what you have voted on to see if maybe somebody spotted something you overlooked, some of us I know do, I suspect most of us don't. I suspect they vote and forget.

I voted that I don't care... basically what I mean is I don't care if someone PMs me if I missed something... I mean I know I am far from perfect... I definitely make mistakes.

On the other hand When I see others that make mistakes with their vote I do not PM them unless I know ahead of time that they don't mind. Like I know Skip don't mind if he is PMed if he makes a mistake.. and I have messaged him more then once before... and he either thanked me for showing him something he missed... or explained to me how he didn't make a mistake.... then all is good.

But I reiterate... I do not PM someone about their vote unless I know ahead of time that they don't mind!

That is reasonable, Pete. But at the same time I ask myself, why a user objects to having a mistake pointed out..oh well that is just one of the many factors that I appy to my user database here.

I personally don't even wonder why... some people just don't... and all you can do is respect their privacy.

If someone is polite with their PM, I don't think most users mind.  If someone PMs them calling them stupid for something, then I think most people would mind.  I have been PMed both ways.

Edit:  I was meaning the contributor would not mind is someone PMed them.  I rarely vote because I profile my own DVDs and I don't have time to look everything and vote on it.

Not needed. Your notes will be seen by the contributor, who can correct his contribution, and by the reviewer(s), who can weight your note and decline the contribution even when there is a yes majority.

If someone, other than the contributor, pm's me regarding my vote on a contribution, that someone better have a damn good reason for doing so and had better walk on eggshells.  If I blatently made a mistake and the user politely points it out, I guess I'd be ok with that.  If the user comes off as pompous and accusitory, he/she is gonna get both barrels  .  PMer BEWARE .
