| Posted: | | | | Well, after 14 years and 31,00 discs, I had to give up on Profiler. Just out-grew it, not being able to add any more to it. I'm still working on it, but, I moved the collection over to Movie Collector. Surpassed the 32,000 disc level and it runs fine. Still a few bugs to fix, but it looks good! Gene My Collection |

| Posted: | | | | Sorry to see you go, but the reality is that this application really hasn't been overhauled/upgraded in a long time. As far as I know it still doesn't support Unicode. |

Just wouldn't let add discs or even refresh updated profiles. The Movie Collector database is unreal ..... My Collection |

| Posted: | | | | Well I went ahead and purchased a subscription to test it out. I was impressed with how easy it was to get set up, and then to upload my collection using Invelos XML. And the presentation is appealing and configurable.
But on the downside (I am still learning, so take these with a grain of salt):
- There is still manual work to do for some profiles incompletely imported - There are a list of things that Movie Collector does not support, some of which, to their credit, are listed explicitly during the purchase process - There is no way to make use of plugin technology - There is no CLT or equivalent - No easy way to support private, local data and custom made DVDs - The Movie Collector export suppresses the barcodes, when even they suggest them as required for the best DVD Profiler Import process. But then they don't let you export them out again. Hmm ...
All in all, to me it was worth the money to mess around for a year. Then I will decide what to do based on the status of Invelos and / or feature improvements to Movie Collector. Actually I don't mind using them both. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | I only downloaded and played a bit with the free test version, so I may have missed things, but a few things that occured to me in addition to what mediadogg mentioned: - Subscription based. Not terribly expensive, but still one year costs about the same as a lifetime access to Profiler. That will probably be Profiler's lifetime and not mine. Well, at 74, who knows. - No forum / community - No "Credited As" (as far as I could tell) - No "Add by disc id" - No custom collections (afaik) I'm a bit fuzzy about database updates. Can a user submit updates to Movie Collector's online database? Do updates in IMDb automatically update Movie Collector's database? Movie Collector actually includes UPC in the export, but only if it's entered in the profile, which I suppose happens if you add by UPC, but not if you add by title? Not sure there, I saw it in some export data but not in others. But what it doesn't export is Cast and Crew (unless I missed a seting somewhere). This severely cripples the usefulness of export files for query purposes. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

Well, as far as I could tell you can edit profiles, adding (and removing) things like cast and crew, and you can add "manual" profiles, although it's not immediately obvious until you start going through the menus. So I guess that would be "No easy way". But then again, your mileage may vary ... | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | Just realized that the import from Profiler does not include collection number. This is a definite showstopper for me, as that is the only way I can find a title in my shelves. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

--------------- At this point, no evident way. I only briefly reviewed things so far. I must have missed the UPC in the current export specification. I also thought I remembered it was there - when I did the BulkEdit import. So far, nobody has mentioned "Locality," meaning Country for which the package was designed to marketed and for which the Rating System is valid (But not all ratings are unique to a country,). | | | Thanks for your support. Import from DVD Profiler includes collection numbers. I have imported all my profiles to Movie Collector where they all show correct collection number. The field name for collection number in Movie Collector is Index. | | | Markku |
