This overturns precedent established on other Warner releases (they do this a lot). I'm pretty sure this would have been possible with DVD as well, but I can't think of any examples off-hand.

Quoting Taro:
Quote:
Unicus, I admit I didn't remove the contributions because they had more NO votes than the previous time (when they were also rejected). I honestly didn't think they had a chance in hell of being accepted. I was wrong in not withdrawing them after Ken's message, I openly admit that.

As for users making submissions on profiles they do not own, you are again correct in that Ken has now clearly ruled that anyone can contribute on any profile. So in that regard, he can go ahead and post a submission.

However, my NO vote stands and I will not change it. Him not owning the discs means he is incapable of verifying his own submission and his submission contains inaccuracies. I am not talking about the 'house' issue, I am talking about how to access the audio track and subtitles. His Easter Egg is not only incomplete but inaccurate as well. Him not owning the disc isn't against the rules but it poses a problem in reality, as he's incapable of submitting a correct explanation. For that reason, I'll keep my NO vote. When I see a contribution that is wrong, I vote NO. I also won't put effort anymore in explaining where the submission is wrong and incomplete. Enough people voted YES on that submission so it means nobody cares anyway.

As for Surfeur's post, it's indeed clear that a double standard is upheld here and Invelos protects a certain user, allowing him more leaniance than other users, most likely because they have a long history together. That much has become clear to me as well now.

Shall I mention that no less than twice I challenged your leaving up your Contributions, despite what Ken had said. Your failure to do so said all too much about you, and that saddened me, Taro. Now as to your specific points relative to ownership or whatever, you would preclude people who rent a movie from entering data? REALLY. Even I would not think that, let alone suggest it. I have a friend who owns both the Blu-ray set and an accompanying player. I told you specifically both privately and publicly that I would gladly accept an Easter Egg Contribution with the data, and that was before Ken said a word on the matter. Now if you have a problem with the specifics of the Easter Egg, please PM me with your recommendations and i will be only to happy to review them and likely include them.

If you do not wish to do this then I can only presume that Unicus is correct in his assessment of your vote being outside of the Rules, which also says much about you.

You have the ball and i hope to hear from you.

He didn't say "written credits", he said "credits" - which for all we know could be read out aloud.

I never saw an audio track with written credits. That just prove that this user never had the disc in his hand and is lying.

Not exactly, at least I think not. The way I understand it, key is whether or not it is necessary to either change player settings or use an alternate button press method. In case it is necessary, the audio tracks that are not readily available should be entered as Easter Eggs, if it's not necessary (and they can be accessed through different menu language choices or through the player's audio button) all audio tracks should be entered as such. In the latter case, no precedent gets overturned.

And you're quite right: over here in R2 land it happened with DVD all the time.

Voting against Skip's contribution is a violation of the rules as his data is accurate, and the contribution replaces data which is inaccurate.

For Taro it may be I'd vote yes based on what I have read here. But there are apparently 100's of thousands of users. I am sure there are many people who don't read these forums.

It's not a violation of the rules as they are currently written which is the problem with forum statements being a replacement for the rules since the rules make no reference to forum posts. I am sure many of them have no idea who Ken or Gerri are (So quoting them in notes would probably not hold any sway). If we are going to have rulings (Which I welcome irrespective of whether I agree with them) then they should be accompanied with either a change to the rules or a hotlink to the ruling in the rules.

Also if anyone voted no before the updated notes they would be a valid No since no source was given for the data.

I voted no on those submissions because they were incomplete, inaccurate and contained no verification method. Now, we have somewhat of a verification method but the inacurracies are still there (I'm sorry, Unicus, but I disagree when you write the submission is accurate: there is no clear description on how to activate the Easter Egg nor the exact results it will yield. In fact, in the submission the Easter Egg isn't included at all). As such, I believe my vote isn't a violation of the rules.

The timing is very unfortunate. While the discussion was in full swing in the forums here, it was getting really late in my time zone. Having to go to work early on Monday morning, I left this as they were, planning to write up the Easter Egg text on my notebook on my way to work the next day, which I did. During my coffee break, I noticed (much to my surprise, I must add) that some of my submissions got admitted. I wanted to correct those myself and submit the Easter Egg text I had prepared, but Skip was ahead of me. I am not ashamed to admit that my private life and work take precedence over fast submitting of updates.

As I have said, I would gladly vote yes on the update, but when I compare it with my notes, it just isn't correct or complete. I find it a pity that he insisted on quickly erasing my error but doesn't replace it with a correction (namely, and accurate Easter Egg). Otherwise, I would have voted yes in a heartbeat.

Ace_of_Sevens is also right in that this ruling is an overturn of previews Warner Brothers precedents. Prior to Ken posting on this matter, since I was aware of those precedents, I was initially surprised the submission got declined. As a gesture of good will, I was prepared to make a combination of both Easter Egg explanation + inclusion of the tracks. **REMOVED PERSONAL ATTACK**

As for the nitpicking of Surfeur, I agree it is a bit overboard but on the other hand you reap what you sow. Many times have I been lectured by Skip that I should input exact data (WYSIWYT) or correct submission notes. I agree on that. However, when continuously lecturing others, you shouldn't be surprised that when you use notes on your notebook taken from credits in a theater or submitting an Easter Egg which is inaccurate and with a rather weak verification method, that other users pick your words apart to discredit you. The standards for voting should be the same for every user, whether they be a newbie or a veteran who likes to lecture others.

I also agree with Graveworm that rulings from the forums should definitely somehow be included in the rules. As mentioned above my private life and work take precedence over wading through endless threads in search of rulings. I simply do not have the time to do so, even with the best of will.

One note about Easter Eggs in general: I still have quite a few in my local database, gathered from around the net or provided to me by friends who own the same disc. Up to now, many of those I had not submitted because I haven't had time to verify them myself. With what's being said in this thread, am I to understand that I should just have submitted them 'as is'? Without verifying this myself?

In retrospect, I feel I wasted a lot of time uselessly verifying data. I purposely used analyzing tools such as BD Info to get the correct track order, verified on a second BD player, etc. Now I see a submission by a user who doesn't even verify his submission gets more positive replies by members here than when a users takes the time to actually input complete and accurate data. It's a pity but I've detached myself from the online part of DVDP and consider it, as other users have suggested "their loss". I won't grieve over it nor will I resubmit more accurate data. I've reached the point where I've become indifferent to the matter and will instead use that time now to update my local data and spend more time watching instead of profiling. All in all, not a bad decision I think.
