DVDPca Pre-Beta V0.3

Download here.

I have attempted to fix the exception errors, and eliminate annoying popups. Those that I have not suppressed or new ones, I hope will be effectively trapped and displayed in the Log for diagnostic purposes.

Summary of changes:

- Added View Log menu item
- Conversion of extracted audio and subtitle languages to English format to match dropdowns
- Language extraction should be more accurate
- Play button on WMP now works
- Suppressd the attempt to read Blu-Ray discs until later when the code has been completed

@Space: I'm not sure why you are asking. Does the DVDPca player not work on your system?
Thanks for your support.

No, he says "reading media" and "play (menu)" but stays blank. .NET player does nothing, too... (V0.2 though)
Can you please sent me 0.3 via e-mail? Maybe a log-file answers some questions.

I'm beginning to wonder about your system. Seems like too many standard things are not working. Nobody else has reported issues with the players or with the download. Do you have another PC you could try? I really hate chasing "non-bugs."

It is possible that you have no mpeg decoder available (to my software) if WMP is not on your system. But I am not sure about that.

I properly installed Windows Media Player, but no luck. When trying to play a DVD the subtitles error boxes pop up again. MPEG decoders are there, too.

I'll try on my Laptop later.

EDIT: Player work both on my laptop (WMP and .NET), but the subtitle error boxes appear and it doesn't play the selected title, it starts everytime with the first disc menu. (still 0.2)

The problem downloading from your side occurs on my laptop as well, maybe something ISP related.

Thanks for the report, but there is no need to keep messing with 0.2. It has a bunch of errors that I have attempted to fix. (Oh I forgot you can't get to it ... sorry. I'll send it.)

Also, the player cannot do anything more than what the DVD will allow. You also cannot go directly to any title using PowerDVD, until after you pass the FBI warning, etc.. The menu structure has protections that prevent it. VLC player breaks some rules - I don't know (or care) how they do it.

Not seeing any early reports on V0.3 - does that mean that stuff got resolved? I want to move on to the unfinished stuff, if the current version is sort of hanging together.

Sorry, couldn't post sooner:

1. Download troubles from your site seem resolved, must have been a problem of my ISP.
2. 0.3 works as intended on both, PC and laptop.

Jim, so this is what you have been working on very cool, I'll take a poke around later today, finally getting a whole day off if I can manage to avoid phone calls from my boss.

Also something about Euro Windows releases, there are various version of Windows that the EU and some EU countries force MS to build without some of the built in "features" that you get else where. Just something to keep in the back of your mind.

SpaceFreak - there is a freeware program called g-spot it will read codec info for you machine and let you know if something is missing or broken. It has been a very nice tool for figuring out video playing issues.

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Any more news on 0.3? Were the fixes successful? Any more instability issues? I am working on the plugin with the idea that 03 is kind of stable ... so, keep me posted. Anybody with my email already can just go ahead and send IFOs if necessary.

Jim - Do you want screen shots or log files in general ?

Ionly put a few discs through it yesterday, no errors on what I used but I am guessing there is a lack of info on the discs.

I don't know if you have been following the thread or took a look at what I am doing in detail, but most of the metadata is optional. There is no guarantee that it has been encoded by the DVD maker. What I am most interested in is whether there is a program crash, or for the data that is "found," you determine it to be inaccurate by some other method - e.g. what is in an existing profile. Then we need to explore why the difference. In theses cases, sending me the zipped .IFO files from Video_TS is the most helpful.

Also, you should read the dicussion about Aspect Ratio before you report any issues there. We have already been there done that., and I am working on a method to determine the actual movie aspect ratio.

Sorry I wasn't more clear.

I ran 4 disc through it and they didn't report quite a bit of info and yes I had seen that a lot of that info is option to the disc maker.

I made that comment in that the discs I used didn't present a lot of "extra" details.

and I caught the Aspect ratio stuff, I tried the buttons and got the pop up :D
