I can understand it... and agree with Martian when it comes to same film on different formats.

But for regular box sets... I want it the way it is now. Next to nothing in the parent profile.

Well, that is just inconsistent like many other things in here.

It is not inconsistent. One is a single movie just on different formats. That is a totally different circumstance then several different movies  in one set. Two totally different situations... one has nothing to do with the other.

They are both box-sets. And many people don't use the child profiles, so I think it should be optional on both. Instead of one working this way and another working that way. If not, I would rather have the existing box- set rule on both types. Not that i like it, but at least that is more consistent.

They aren't even both sold as box sets... One is sold as box sets and the other one is sold as combo packs. At least that is how I always seen them advertised and such. You... and some others of course... just look at them the same as box sets. But I have always seen them listed, advertised and such as combo packs. 2 different things... 2 different ways of doing it.

But the program can't separate that. In the program both of the types have parent and children and the children are listed under "box-set".

That is just a limitation of the software. And definitely not the only limitation between the software and the rules. That don't mean we have to use the same rules for both type of releases. I for one think we shouldn't.

No, we don't have to use the same rules for both, and I know you think we shouldn't. But then you prefer in inconsistency, that's all I am saying. I prefer consistence over a some personal preferences in most cases.

But one thing I wonder about is: Why are we talking about changing the rules (an almost impossible thing to get done in here) instead of talking about changing the program so it suits both types better. I think changing the program maybe is easier than changin the rules. I bet Ken is more interested in programming then in rules.

We normally get 1 update per year or more... and we just recently got one. So I would imagine the next program update is a good long time away from now.

Depends on Ken...sometimes it is a long time... sometimes he surprises us with a rules update. Sometime he just posts a clarification on how to follow the rule here in the forums. All depends on his mood I guess.

Here are the 7 latest update dates from the Revision History :

June 3, 2012
May 14, 2010
April 14, 2010
March 19, 2010
February 4, 2009
November 18, 2008
November 14, 2008

Seems like 2010 was a good year.

Now what gives the best chance :
a) To get a rules update ?
b) To get a program update ?

I'm just asking. I don't know. (Well, if I should guess: None of them would give high odds.)

All we can do is put in a request for either one... and then just follow the current rules to the best of our abilities until such time Ken decides to do something about it.

They are both box-sets.

You say that as if a box of several different films is the same as a box with the same film in multiple formats, and it isn't.  Since they aren't the same there's no inconsistency in treating them differently.

I think they should be consistent a la bizarra. Heres why. While I haré the idea of children which are fraternal reina of each other. There ARE differences in features and disc content that we can discriminate in the parent. So...children are the best answer. The distinction about coding I dont ser as more than a smoke screen, it is a separate disc withpossibly different features or data we need to account for.

Children are the best answer for you, they are not the best answer for everyone.  If the main profile uses the data from the main disc, and there are optional child profiles for the rest, everybody gets what they want.
