I don't think anybody really wants to see Meangirls as the title.  I know I certainly don't.  Just pointing out the, shall we say, intellectual inconsistency that tends to go along with general message board herd mentality.  Next month we'll have this exact same discussion about a completely different title and the gang may arbitrarily go a completely different direction.  Layer Cake with the number 4, for example.  A completely nonsense title that graphically looks cool but doesn't even match the credit block.  Yet folks will swear up and down that the name of the movie is L4yer Cake.

There is no 'intillecual inconsistency' here nor is there a 'herd mentality' as your example does not match this situation.  In this case, we are talking about spacing of the title.  Is it one word or two?

In your example, it was about actual data.  If the title says 'L4yer Cake', we can't enter 'Layer Cake' as there is no 'a' on the cover.  Like it or not, we do not make those types of 'corrections'.  Until the rule is changed, if the characters can be entered, we are required to enter them.

If the title would say 'L4yer Cake' you might be correct. But I see 'LAYER CAKE' with a strangely formatted A and E.

No, the key is that you see two words in the title. That's enough. You don't have to look at the colour of the words after you have separated them.

Actually, you do.  If you want to follow the rules, 'seeing' two words isn't enough.  For it to be enough, the rule would have to read, "If the title is shown run together, use standard spacing."  Unfortunately, it doesn't read that way.  In order to split the title in to multiple words, there has to be coloring and/or symbols splitting the words.  I am sorry, but there is no getting around that conditional.

And the colour does not help separating the words in this case.

It doesn't help for you, but it seems to help for Pete.

The second letter in 'L4ER CAKE' matches, exactly, the number four on my computer keyboard so, please, let's not play that game.

No, it doesn't help him. Even he has to separate the two words before he can claim different colour. That's the nature of a gradient.

What about the last letter? It matches exactly the 3 on my keyboard formatted upside down. But since you ignore formatting, you should enter 'L4yer Cak3'. But since this is off topic, I drop it.

That is only your opinion, Rho. I don't agree with your assessment in any way, ansd that sir is MY opinion. There is a gradient but it is NOT uniform across BOTH words. I have also becom,e very tired of surfeur's and YOUR agenda.

As I said... I don't even see any dark in the second word.... for all I can tell only the first word has the gradient effect. So YES IT DOES HELP ME. You can go by what you see... but don't talk for me... you do not see with my eyes. I can only go by the image provided. and with the image provided the colors do help me decide.

This is getting very frustrating. I have one user trying to make me look bad. And another telling me what I see and don't see and how it does or does not help me. I am out of this discussion.

So you have separated the words already. Otherwise you could not say that there is no dark in the second word.

I can say I see two colors to one point and only one color through the rest of it. And I can say that up to the end of the 2 colors forms one word... and the single color point to the end forms another word. So yes the colors do help me... WITHOUT SEPARATING THE WORDS FIRST... '

so one again...

Welcome to the party. I have suffered this nonsense for a very long time from the same users in the same way. One thinks that his opinion is the gold standard of opinions despite no involvement in the Rule-making process at any stage in any version, unlike you Then we have other users who just live to create the same sort of hostility they have in you, while their comments may not be interpereted as direct insults or attacks, they are both plus being demeaning. I apologize to you for their ill-behavior, Pete, since I know they won't do it themselves, both of these particular users are expert at exercising their crass behavior.

I will say this: if some of you can't even agree on what you see as far as the color is concerned, then we obviously should't depend on color for making any kind of decision about how to enter a piece of data.

My main problem is the fact that I am not trying to change anyone's opinion here... they see it the way they see it that is fine... contribute and vote the way they see it. But yet I am getting flack because I see it differently. I wouldn't try to make someone else look bad or try to tell them what they see and don't see.

While it can help... I don't see it as a great way of doing it. As no 2 sets of eyes are the same... some people are colored blind to certain colors... other people can't see slight differences and so on.

All these problems come about because people can't (or won't) see a difference between a logo and a title.

Meangirls is a logo, the title is Mean Girls

L4yer Cake is a logo, the title is Layer Cake

T4xi is a logo, the title is Taxi 4

Whether we can recreate the logo or not textually should be irrevelvant to these discussions, but the insistence that the only source for a title is the front cover is the biggest stumbling block.
It's painfully obvious that the designers are extremely flexible when it comes to putting titles on covers, our rules should reflect that flexibility and not be so rigid.

It would be very nice if discussion about other posters and their motives were discontinued.  There is absolutely no need for it.
