Here is (hopefully) the final list of ratings for Finnish DVDs. Any comments are welcome.

Because of the circles and squares used in the actual rating symbol, parenthesis and square bracket characters are used in the rating name to make a distinction between the classified and unclassified ratings.

When converting, should the default be to the circles or squares?

I Found it also good to show the official logo's. Perhaps Ken could include those and from the other localities to.

The BBFC logos are copyrighted so I doubt Ken would be able to include them.

Perhaps Ken could include the ability for users to attach\associate their own picture to each rating level. Similar to how actor/crew headshots are done. Could have an option to use pictures and if no picture is present for a particular rating it could just show the text.

If no one else objects, I'd suggest to default to circles, we can then contribute corrections where needed. And please convert current 13/15 to (15).

Agreed, and the ratings provided by Jykke look good to me too.

Jykke's list looks good.

Default to circles and 13/15 to 15 when converting.

But, just one thought:
Is it really needed to use parenthesis characters?
Distinction between the classified and unclassified ratings might be even more obvious if only unclassified uses bracket character and classified is just number.

Can I assume from Ken's question that he is planning to include rating logos for the next Profiler version ? In that case I would try to add the logos for the German ratings.

Adult DVD bought from a UK store is censored and/or cut. Bought from a "licensed sex shop" you get the real deal. I would assume thats vital information to anyone that buys adult DVD's in UK. At least thats how i see it.

You're slightly confusing things. Stuff brought in normal shops is rated 18 and is basically soft core porn. The stuff bought in licensed shops is usually rated R18 and is hard core. However it can still be cut.

In fact according to the Melon farmers website  (note link is not safe for work) the BBFC cut approximately 30% of R18's.

Lithurge,
You have hardcore R18 stuff on sale on several UK online shops. It's however cut/censored.
I've never been into an UK "licensed sex shop", nor do I know anyone who has, so I don't know anything about those.

And the unlucky Brits can't have it mailed by post to them from the main continent, and customs maybe on the lookout when they re-enter the UK from abroad looking for porn.
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

Ahh...trips to the continent as a HGV driver, stocking up on the good stuff and making a few bob once back in Blighty, those where the days.

As an example, here's the new ratings section for the US:

<Locality Description="United States" ID="0">

<Ratings Description="Film">
<Rating Name="G" Description="All Ages Admitted" Age="1"/>
<Rating Name="PG" Description="Parental Guidance Suggested" Age="10"/>
<Rating Name="PG-13" Description="Parents Strongly Cautioned" Age="13"/>
<Rating Name="R" Description="Restricted" Age="17"/>
<Rating Name="NC-17" Description="No one 17 and under admitted" Age="18"/>
</Ratings>

<Ratings Description="Television">
<Rating Name="TV-Y/TV-G" Description="Suitable for all ages" Age="1"/>
<Rating Name="TV-Y7" Description="Unsuitable for children under 7" Age="7"/>
<Rating Name="TV-PG" Description="Unsuitable for younger children, and pre-teenagers until asking their parents" Age="12"/>
<Rating Name="TV-14" Description="Unsuitable for children under 14" Age="14"/>
<Rating Name="TV-MA" Description="Adults Only" Age="18"/>
</Ratings>

</Locality>

All this talk about adult movies... I wonder if R1 USA should have X or XXX Ratings added.  Not that it matters to me... most adult thing I have in my collection is some of the older Girls Gone Wild DVDs. But I am sure they would be useful for other people.

The place you buy an R18 from, either online or a licensed bricks and mortar store, has no effect on how cut the film is or isn't.

As the link I provided points out, the BBCF cuts 30% of R18's it receives, but you can't say all R18's are cut, I will acknowledge that the stats won't take into account films that are pre-cut by the distributor.

R18's can't legally be sold by UK based online shops to people living in the UK. I can't claim expertise to know if that restriction also applies to selling them to people based elsewhere in the EU. (There will always be people willing to chance their arm for a few quid though).

If you dig into it, you will probably find most of these 'UK' online stores are actually registered abroad.
