Yeah... I have said before how I am totally against such a rule addition. And my mind hasn't changed in the least on that. I still feel it points us in the opposite direction then we should be going.

I definitely prefer a change to the rule, so that we can avoid this nonsens of cataloging the same errors over and over again. If you want to collect errors, I think the best place for that is in your local.

Common sense is what 99,9% people think and do. For example, most people avoid to add voluntarily spelling mistakes when they write to their boss, and think non volontary errors are sufficient in this case...

Obvious spelling mistakes are just obvious:

Ovbious
speling
mastikes
aer
juts
obvoius

idem for names:

Harisson Ford
Bruce Wilis
Nicole Kadmin

And the color/colour problem is a false one. Is it a US zone 1 or UK zone 2 DVD ? then  you have the answer.

not in my opinion... in my opinion this program is first and foremost a collection program. And these errors should be recorded as they are on the items we collect. Just like all the other collection programs I have used in the past.

Not to mention it is opening up way too much to interpretation... as been gone over and over in this thread. I would much prefer a straight forward easy for all to understand rule over something that would be so open to interpretation.

I would definitely be completely against any rule change here.

The thing is... we are not writing anything here... we are transcribing something that is already written. And common sense tells me when you transcribe something that someone else writes you do so exactly as it is written in front of you. Not change/fix something you believe (or even know) is an error.

If you prefer a "straight forward easy for all to understand rule", you should go for a rule that always leave the overview blank.

I agree with this. It should not be a problem using common sens.

But then we got arguments... my common sense tells me when we transcribe (which is what is being done when filling the overview field) we do not correct errors. So you will have a group of people that think your way voting one way and a group thinking my way voting another way... and probably other group(s) thinking their own way... all voting by their common sense... meaning we will have a total mess in the database... some done one way some done another way... and ping pong contributions. The kind of mess we had before having the rules. I for one don't ever want to go back to such mess as we had.

No problem. Then the screener will just look up in a dictionary and he will see if it spelled Ovbious or obvious.

I am sorry... this is not something you will convince me of being a good idea. I see nothing what so ever good to come from it.

Maybe sooner or later enough other people will be convinced, so we can have the rules changed to something better and more consistent.

Why do you use future ? With present rule, we have already a total mess, with names that do not link since variants with  spelling mistakes exist in CLT. With a rule asking to correct spelling mistakes, we should not have in CLT François Berléand/Francois Berléand/Francois Berleand/François Berleand as it is the case today... (in fact, in this case, Invelos rules require to add spelling mistakes, which is even more stupid than just recopying them).

We have consistency now with exactly as on cover. A much better rule in my opinion.

It's a sad day when a proof reader misses a typo in a cover art/design for a release...
It's a sadder day when the masses then perpetuate the error..
And days can be deemed totally dark when a re-print release fixes the error but the masses refuse the correction....

Rules have the best of intentions, but not every rule can be black and white.

Well said.
