Having played with MY MOVIES it is actually quite simple in how it works with the standalone media player to allow playback from the database.

Basically all that would be required would be for DVDP to store the paths to the media files/storage devices and have ability to generate a device compatible index at a location accessible to the media player. When the index location is selected on the media player, a gui comes up and allows you to use the database information via the index and, when you select a movie, starts playing it as the file path is in the database and therefore in the index files.

The index is linked to the database so that changes in the database update the index at the same time.

I would love to see this functionality added to DVDProfiler and would be happy for this to be an additonal cost feature for those that want it. I much prefer to work with DVDP as it is vastly superior to My Movies except I want the above functionality so have had to change. I presently will keep my DVDP in the hope that it may include this one day, so I will have to be updating two systems for now.

I could produce a simple index with some movie records in it and send it to you if you like? (As would be generated by My Movies)

I would have to install it on another computer to do this as my index directory is too large. (Although I could mail it to you on a dvd-r if you would like.

Well, not quite I'm afraid!
I had a chance today to look into the file btiltman send me, but the directory structure is way out of the scope of my simple XSLT. Not to mention the background-image for each title.
It seems that browsing through titles, genres, decades ect is achieved by simply creating multiple sub-folder-structures which then references back to a 'master'-folder which actually contains the info for the single movies.

The "dune_folder.txt" that lies in every folder on the other hand should be manageable.

If btiltman has nothing against it I could pass the download link on to you, mediadogg.

Meanwhile I did look at it breifly and agree with Mith that perhaps you should start with the TviX plugin. No need to recreate the wheel ... I'm already behind on a bunch of other stuff ...

Perhaps you could PM the author of TviX Plugin to see if he would join the conversation. I know of another user that is doing something very similar for XBMC. I'll mention this thread to him. This kind of requirement is the exact reason that I built the DVDProfileLoop plugin. That's what TviX uses (or used in the beginning - maybe it has evolved.)
