In this case, the letters are mixed case, since some are smaller and some are larger. I would go ahead and submit it as mixed case.

They are not mixed case! Look that them and you will see they are all caps with the first letter being a larger font.

The rest of the overview is of mixed case but not the two names.

The h in Parrish is lower case and the H in ANTHONY is upper case. compare the rest of the letters.

I will live with this decision, if it is final.

I would ask that you reconsider your answer, while looking at the entire context of the overview.

The letter "H" in "ANTHONY" is not in upper case.  It is in small caps.

Upper case and small caps are not the same thing.

Thanks Gerri for making the call on this!

Here is the region 1 cover of the film.

Notice, the only things that are in small caps are the proper names of the actors/actresses.  The rest of the overview is in regular capitalization.

I do not think this was a limit of the desktop graphix software or the typesetter.  I believe this was intentional.

edit.  Notice also, even though they are small caps, they are still larger than the lower case letters of the rest of the overview..

Thanks! After reading through all five pages of this, that indeed seems to be the correct thing to do. Anyway - many thanks for settling this for us!

I am a printer. I own a design firm. I have worked with type since linotype machine and have set type from cases. Upper case type characters (you call capitals) are in the upper cases. Lower case type is in the lower cases. Small caps (as in these names) are in lower cases. Small caps is, in fact, a form of lower case letters.

Anything else is incorrect. To call small caps upper case or all caps can only come from lack of knowlege of true typefaces.

Gerri's ruling is absolutely correct.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I just personally happy we got an official ruling. Whether I agree with the ruling or not is of absolutely no matter to me.  Now in can be done consistently.

I don't agree with the ruling but nonetheless, I'm still glad we've got an official answer.

Once again, and for the last time, we can't replicate true typefaces in Profiler so it should be a non-issue.  How much easier things would be if we could enter the text exactly as it is written, but we can't.  Since we can't, we have to enter them as best we can.  In this case, they used the small caps to set the actor names apart from the rest of the text...similar to the use of bold or italics.  To enter them in lowercase misrepresents the actual overview.

That being said, while I don't agree, I will abide by Gerri's ruling.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Well said and I fully agree.

A hypothetical situation for those who were in favour of mixed case here. If there was an overview where the main part was in ordinary, indisputable block capitals but the actors names were like here in a font that also had small caps, would you enter the bulk in block capitals & the names in mixed case or would you enter it all in mixed case?

Ohhhh...I smell a trap.

I would enter it in mixed case...all of it.

And I know what you are going to argue..... "...but the whole overview is not in all caps."

I'd still enter it all in mixed case.

One uses mixed case, the other uses mixed font size.

In your HTML example you are right. But in typography small caps is a single sized mixed case font and not a mixture of font sizes.

Doesn't matter.  The rules say, "Copy the overview from the back of the DVD case exactly as written, including capitalization of words exactly as shown on the back of the case."  Small caps are still caps.  While an "N" is meant to give the impression of an 'n', it isn't an 'n'.

No, in a small caps font the 'n' looks like a 'N', but it still is a 'n' and not a 'N'.

It wasn't meant as a trap, I was genuinely interested to know how people would deal with that. Thanks for being honest with your response.

As you've said mix case, can you explain how you would technically come to the opposite answer to the OP. Again no trap intended just trying to establish in my own mind how two almost identical situations can result in the answer being the opposite.

That is not what I meant and that should have been clear to anyone who actually read my post.  Forget seems to have understood so I am at a loss here.

As I said, the small caps were used to set the actor names apart from the rest of the text.  Entering them in mixed case misrepresents the actual overview because those actor names are no longer set apart from the rest of the text.

Anyway, I don't know why I am still here, the issue is settled.

I'm not really sure that I understand your question.  The OP did not have an answer in it...only a question about which way would be right.

But, even though I believe that the names are in mixed case, the rest of the overview is in all caps (in your hypothetical) and I would have no problem with "ignoring" the mixed case of the names when it comes to applying the Rule that says if the Overview is in all caps, to enter it in mixed case.  Entering the overview in all caps, except for the names, would look awful and reduce readability.

Not sure if I've answered your question or not.
