Great comeback for Uruguay! 2:1 against the british.

British? If that's the case then why was Gareth Bale not on the team sheet.

Indeed, the Not-So-United Kingdom harbours four members of FIFA (three of them British, awaiting the Scottish referendum), the only one of which to participate in the current World Cup is England (as long as that will last after tonight). @Micha: watch the flag shown next to England whenever the score is displayed - no Union Jack there!

Sad that it was Steven Gerrard to unknowingly provide his teammate Suárez with an assist for the 2nd goal, simultaneously eliminating off-side.

He's world class at slipping up. I actually feel kind of sorry for him cause i think he does care a lot about his club and country.

If England ever want to win a world cup they need to have a winter breaker in the primer league. Give clubs with tax breaks if a certain number of players in there squad are English.

TBH I'd be vehemently opposed to spending more tax payers' money on what essentially is an already overcommercialized business. Virtually everything in football is about money already.

Aye no harm done. Scotland and England have a common culture. So i don't mind being called British in a cultural or regional sense.

Any way speaking of England it's over for them

Can't blame the weather. Costa Rica is a solid team especially at the back, and they have pace in there forwards.

What have you been smoking? It's Spain and England that have been sent home.

BTW It's remarkable that the two nations with the world's best, most demanding national leagues are also the first to go home.

The two leagues that shell out the most for foreign players. Half time in the France game and having not seen there first game, i'm a bit disappointed i missed it. There playing fantastic football. Might just be in contention for the World Cup.

Spain is a crappy leauge, they only have two or three good (in international terms) teams. I would put France and Germany ahead of them at this point, maybe even Russia and the Dutch.

And of course, looking outside Europe, there is South America. Now those are very tough and demanding leagues, and it shows in the world cup.

The numbers / record says otherwise.

In terms of European success (European Cup/CL & EUFA Cup/EL) =

Spain - 6 different clubs have won 28 cups
Germany - 7 different clubs have won 13 cups
Netherlands - 3 different clubs have won 10 cups
Russia - 2 different clubs have won 2 cups
France - 1 club has won 1 cup

In terms of the domestic leagues, since the 1999-2000 season, the number of different clubs winning their respective championship are =

Spain - 5 different clubs
Germany - 5 different clubs
Russia - 5 different clubs
Netherlands - 4 different clubs
France - 8 different clubs

In the EPL during the same time span, 4 different clubs have won. Of course, having a different club win every year is no indication of how strong a league is, if anything, it is usually an indication of a weak league.
By most expert accounts, Germany, Spain, England, Italy are the top football leagues.

And, if you wanna talk National Team level, Spain with 1 WC and 3 Euro Championships are head and shoulders above everyone else in Europe, save Germany and Italy.
I'm no fan of Spanish football, but unlike many, I didn't eat sour grapes.
