As I already said... I am holding off on these until I hear back from Ken or Gerri... but yes... I am convinced that what I was doing is correct by the rules invelos gave us.

I seriously don't see the sense of putting thousands of additional profiles into the database just because there is the one tiny difference of the disc ID... especially since the standard rules tells us to just add the additional IDs to the profile... and the TV Series rules tells us to make the TV Series child profiles in line with the standard rules.

But as I said... if Ken wants me to make whole new profiles  for every alternate disc ID... then that is what I will do.

But I do stand by the fact that I believe the rules tells us to do it the way I was doing it.

Everything on the rules, what comes to editing the profiles is based on the fact that you must edit correct profile. If not, we can basically do what ever we like "per rules", except changing incorrect Cover Scans.

I just don't see how it isn't the correct profile. I seriously don't see how it is any different then any other release that has an alternate Disc ID.

And from that point I will say again like I have said multiple times before. I am holding off till I hear back from Ken. So lets just relax and wait to hear back from him.

Do I understand this correct, you are working on a child profile that is in the database under the disc ID (because it has no UPC) and you are adding an alternate disc ID to that profile?

Yes, he's disc doesn't have a profile at all and he should create it instead of editing the wrong profile.

Yes... and that is how I believe the rules tells us to do it. Note that it is a TV Series Child profile... which says...

TV Series Rules Quote:
Quote:
Disc-level Profiles

Individual profiles for each disc may be submitted if desired, but this is not required. Add these profiles to the box set contents of the parent profile. Create each of these individual profiles in line with the standard Contribution Rules with one exception - Cover Images. If a disc, or set of discs, have their own case, use the cover images from that case. When submitting a change to an existing TV series profile that is currently a box set, do not remove the existing contents.

In either case, the cast and crew are to be entered into the parent profile using appropriate episode dividers.

Note the line I put in bold.

And the standard rules states about alternate disc IDs says....

Standard Rules Quote:
Quote:
Disc IDs
Add disc information for each disc using a DVD-ROM drive. Use the default descriptions wherever possible; do not change "Main Feature" to the film’s title. Use one description per disc. If a disc is double-sided, there is only one description for that disc.

Do not enter each side as a separate disc.
If a movie is on both sides of a disc in Widescreen and Pan & Scan or Full Frame versions, identify this by entering the Side A description as "Main Feature (Widescreen)" and the Side B description as "Main Feature (Pan & Scan)" or "Main Feature (Full Frame)", or the reverse if that is the order on the disc sides.

If a film spans 2 discs, add (Part 1) and (Part 2) to the “Main Feature” description.

If your Disc ID differs from the Disc ID in the main database, you may change it and re-contribute it. All Disc IDs are stored in the main database and are used for disc identification within DVD Profiler.

Note what I put in bold.

So going by that the way I understand it is we are supposed to submit the alternate disc IDs for TV Series child profiles... not make a whole new profile for any and all alternate disc IDs.

Because the primary key (UPC/Disc ID + Locality) which separates one profile from another doesn't match.

Yes, Create is the key word. Your disc doesn't have an existing profile yet.

That's a major flaw in your argumentation: how would anyone know?!

By inserting the disc and search for the DiscID, simple.

Yes, it seems a bit counter-intuitive to me too, but: As soon as a Disc-ID is used as the primary key, it ceases to be a DiscID and becomes simply a unique identifier like the UPC/EAN.

Just as a movie under UPC_1234567890 can have several different DiscIDs for one disc in its "Discs"-Section and can be found with all those DiscID via the "Add by DiscID"-dialog, a profile under DiscID_I1234567890ABCDEF can have multiple DiscIDs and will be accessible under all of them.

As I asked before... please tell me where this is based in the rules.

I showed in the first post where mine is based in the rules. Please be kind enough to do the same.

I already did this, but will do so again...

"When contributing a title by UPC, make sure the UPC is entered in this format. Do not contribute titles with "made up" or otherwise inaccurate UPCs. If a title does not have a UPC, then add the title by Disc ID, using your DVD-ROM drive."

This title does not have a UPC therefore, according to the above rule, you add it by Disc ID.  This is from the second page of the rules so, in my opinion, should be considered prior to any other part of the rules.

But as I said... the title is already added to the database. There is already True Blood: The complete First Season: Disc 1 in the database.

It does not however say to create a new profile for every alternate disc ID for that title that I can see.

Which I also said the first time you mentioned it.

But the disc doesn't have a UPC so you have to add it by disc ID. That's what the rules tell you to do. Your disc doesn't have a UPC so it needs to be added by disc ID. Your disc ID is not in the database. DVDs that have a UPC that is already in the database but a different disc ID get added as an alternate disc ID.

I still feel the need to wait for clarification. At the very least the rules can be read 2 different ways. As I said... no where does it say to add a TV Series Disc Level profile for every alternate disc ID. I still really don't believe it is telling us that.

So I personally will continue to wait for clarification from Ken on the matter.

True enough, but that doesn't mean we didn't show you, it simply means you don't agree, which I can accept.

That being said, in my opinion, the rules do say to create a profile.  It's the very first word in the rule you quoted, "Create each of these individual profiles in line with the standard Contribution Rules."  It doesn't say, "unless the tite already exists."  Combine that with the rule I quoted, and I just don't understand how it can be done any other way.
