What Invelos seem to forget is that it is unreasonable to expect contributors to have a vast knowledge of the film industry and its terminology to be able to use this program to its full extent.
Even someone with zero knowledge should be able to do a full audit of a film if they have the disc in front of them.
I love DVDProfiler, but the contribution process has got to the point where you practically need a degree in film studies to be able to contribute properly.
I don't care how long the list of accepted roles it - they should ALL be listed. There should be a link in the rules to another page that lists every role that is acceptable (so as to not clutter the crew chart).
That way, a simple click could lead to the answer.
There should also be a system in place to allow forum users to vote/veto proposed entries into that list.
I realise that while my suggestion could very well make things a lot easier it's unlikely to happen with the lack of participation from Invelos staff.
I agree Martian, that common sense is indeed needed; but the requirement to do further research and scour the internet for supporting documentation should NOT be needed.
As for the 'prosthetics' issue. Maybe a rule similar to the Production Sound Mixer could be incorporated: If a Prosthetics Supervisor/Artist/Deisigner is listed within the Make-up Section (or under a Make-up heading) enter as Make-up Effects.
If listed under Special/Visual Effects enter as Visual Effects.
Once again, common sense with the above would be required; but at least it would mean that important crew are not left out of the database.
Alternatively, and by far the best solution - make everything local only; because I don't know of a single person who deserves the effort the contributors put in anyway.
