8Ball: I think the German thing for ratings actually involves a sticker on the cover itself or printed one of the two. At least this is true of what I have seen. Stickers or cellophane is another issue altogether.

The issue that I was addressing was DarklyNoon's assertion that we need the the images to match "the cover like it is displayed in the stores".

That would include cellophane and all stickers.

Back on point, if the inside image is exactly the same as the outside one but without the huge rating logo, then I would prefer the inside image as it is a "cleaner" view of the cover art without obstructions.

We just need more precise written rules.

I strongly believe that our images should always show the original product, and not other artwork from wherever it may come.

the rules clearly allow for alternative artwork.

I know. It's sad. This exception of The Rules for one locality is inconsistent.

The covers still have to come from the original product of course, I don't see anyone saying anything else.

Wikipedia says:

We just need more precise written rules.

OOr users 6thaqt won't nit pick every little thing and/or be willing to accept the advice and assistance of others who onl;y want to help.

As Kathy noted elsewhere there is no way ANY rule is going to please everyone. But if the premise behind the Rules is understood then about 80% of these questions would not ever be necessary, except from the stanpoint of should it be added in the future type of discussions as opposed to the typical can we create a big enough loophole to get it in right now discussions which are far more common...see the Creative Make-Up thread for example.

I have to say that the rating logo scenario would be an easy one to fix in the rules. I few minor changes would eliminate 99% of the problems. That's all. I think it's relatively simple.

I hear you DK and part of me would love to agree with you. But my experience with this community indicates that they would simply find something else to carp about. Cynical...perhaps, but in my estimation deserved and i won't single anyone out there is no need we are all guilty to one degree or other.

But as I said all that needs to be understood is premise behind the Rules is simply to create a single page for ALL to work from, and for users to stop wandering far afield to get whatever the fav of the moment is. I recently received a PM describing a situation where a user was trying to add virtually anything or anyone that had anything to do with a camera, despite the Rules and was giving another user a hard time because he voted No.

You are making this way to complicated. If there is a rule that causes data ping-ponging like the logo rule, and if that rule is easy to fix with minor changes in the wording of the rule or an extra note in the rules, let's do it. Why can't Ken just change that rule? One less problem, as you say we find a different rules to argue about but at least this one is fixed. One step at a time. That's how I see it. Come on Ken, change the rule, with rating logo, without rating logo. Make it bulletproof and we have one less argument.

Edit: Ken, if multiple cover support is coming soon, let us know and this type of discussion will stop.

I thought internet forums was just the place carp about something.
something to carp about is good.
After all if you carp about something at home your children don't listen and to your wife will cost you.
Your boss don't listen to either. The internet forum has replaced the bar tender and much cheaper.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.
