What it says in the film credits is totally irrelevant to what the Title field should contain!  Try reading the Rules. "Take the Title from the front cover".

When you do as the Rules state, the Title is "Blade Runner", with subtext under it which says "The Final Cut".

Based on that, the title field should contain "Blade Runner: The Final Cut", the Edition field should contain "Two-Disc Special Edition" and the Original Title field should contain whatever shows up in the opening credits of the film (don't have it immediately available), unless the opening credits show "Blade Runner: The Final Cut" in which case the Original Title field should be left blank.

Why do we always make this so much more difficult than it actually is?

You are reversing your argument that you made for "King Arthur". aren't you?

How is this following the rules.

Quote:
Episode descriptors are part of the title; separate them with a colon and space; e.g. "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock". For multiple descriptors, use a colon and space for each break.

The final cut is not an episode descriptor.  It does not express the next movie in the series, like star trek in the above example.  therefore it could not be Blade Runner:The Final Cut

So now the question is, "Is it part of the title itself".  If it is part of the title itself, then it would be
Blade Runner The Final Cut  (no colon)

Since it is not the title of the movie, then it must folow another part of the rules

Quote:
The Edition field is for distinguishing between DVDs, and for indicating special versions and collections (for example The Criterion Collection, Widescreen, Full-Screen Edition). It's usually safe to use one of the built-in selections if appropriate. If you are using a non-standard description, take it from the DVD box, and ensure it will help distinguish between different releases of the same title.

It is no different than "The Directors Cut" "Special Edition" "Unrated Directors Cut"

The title is Blade Runner

The Edition is The Final Cut:Two-Disc Special Edition

C'mon Hal, that's not how it works. Once you dig your heels in you have to just keep repeating the same thing over and over until the other side gives up. This whole business about hearing both sides and making an informed decision, even if it means you change your position just doesn't fit in around here!

FWIW I hadn't voted yet. I just voted in agreement with you, breaking the 26/26 tie. With it that close it looks like this one will fall on Invelos to decide.

Tghe mistake that is being made here is a bunch of straw arguments, what about this title, that title, some other title. Each and every title is unique to itself and what my be handled may not apply to the next or any other titl.

At Vittra
Thank you for . I missed the ? completely for some reason and when i got back and saw your post, I slapped myself around a bit. Instead, however of being useful, I was faced with a couple of users whoese sole purpose was in making snide and argumentative comments that said NOTHING. But THANK YOU.

At Rick
No, I don't think so, rick you have attacked and insulted me more times than I can count and have not apologized for any of them. Instead you make snide and useless comments whiach are simply designed to draw fire. So, no Rick, you started this silly feid, I'll not apolofgize to you, until you finally recognize you own bad behavior.

What about the order of the two editions? From reading this thread most would like "The Final Cut: Two Disc Special Edition".  But Two-Disc Special Edition is first on the cover, so why are you reversing it?

When that is said, I'm still of the opinion that the edition field is for editions of the DVD, not editions of the movie. (Nothing is said in the rules about this though. But this is DVD Profiler, not Movie Profiler  ).

The fact that Director's Cut is selectable in the drop down list is something I think is archaic remains from very old versions of the program.

So in my opinion the title should be Blade Runner: The Final Cut with Two Disc Special Edition in the edition field.

But I guess this is just another thing the community can't agree on and something Invelos has to step in and decide

EDIT: Just to throw in another example as this debate isn't about Blade Runner any more, but a more principle debate

What about this version of Alien:

Consider that one in relations to this version of Aliens. They were released together, so since they are from the same series and released together, they should have the same edition. 2 Disc Special Edition. Also note the location of the horizontal line separating the title on Aliens and compare it with where the line is on the Alien cover.

There can be many versions of a movie and a DVD and all the thing called in this thread are versions. To distinguish these versions we use in DVDP the Edition field.

We have different versions of a movie to distinguish:
- Kinofassung (Cinema Version)
- Extended Version/Extended Cut
- Director's Cut
- Uncut
- Final Cut
- The Richard Donnor Cut (Version from a different director)
...

We have also different versions of a DVD:
- Special Edition
- 2-disc Edition
- Widescreen Edition
...

And we have versions that show that a movie belongs to a Collection:
- Criterion Collection
...

And of course many of them could be combined:
- Special Edition - Rental Version (perhaps just the movie)
- Special Edition - 2-Disc Version (for sale with a bonus disc)
- Director's Cut - Special Edition - 4-Disc Version

But these are still all Editions after the rules, because the above called are all distinguishing factor's.

But the rules you quoted say distinguishing between DVDs, not different movies. It can easily be argued that The Richard Donner Cut is a different movie.

If you would have Superman II and Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut in your Collection, wouldn't be "The Richard Donner Cut" that factor that distinguishs the DVDs.
It's just how you call it.

Btw, if Invelos would think/want that different cuts are treated like different movies, why should we for Production Year always use the original release?

This can happen Hal.    But if this comes more often, you should think about your further lifestyle.
