Heya Whispering,

Welcome to the fun :-)

In general I agree with the others.  We should always verify what we contribute.

On the other hand if there isn't enough of a voting body in your locality who cares enough to vote I think it's up to the screeners.  IMO mostly correct data is better than none at all.  (Even those who preach accuracy take the occasional shortcut in my experience.  I recently corrected a profile submitted by someone in this thread which was taken straight from... another database.)

It's worth it though to follow the rules.  They don't always give real world accuracy, but they do give us a consistent base to work with.

I'm sorry to say this, but just because i'm the one saying it out loud, doesnt mean others arent doing it. I would make a rough estimate that from the profiles ive commed across the majority had cast/crew lists copied from another profile without being verified. So if you're using CLT in the belief that all profiles in the database have verified cast and crew, you're wrong. Though the profiles ive commed across probably make up 0,2% of the whole DB.

I would say the same thing to ANYONE who is simply copying unverified data from other profiles.  I did not mean to imply that you were the only user who does this.  I, too, frequently copy data from existing profiles.  But if I don't have the time or inclination to verify it, I won't contribute it.  I've learned this the hard way, by blindly accepting someone else's work without checking it against the copy I own.  This is especially true because the data from two versions of the same title (say from different regions/localities) isn't always the same.  I don't want to risk being the one to compound an existing error.

Stop nagging, you silly man!

As I told you in another thread, I'll say what I think correct as many times as I think it is necessary. You can block me if you do not like my opinion, which is as relevant as yours. I know it is an habit here to want to shut up others' opinions, you are just proving how tolerant you are.

If you had bothered to even try to follow the rules - you would get correct links in the online as well! It's a bit more tedious than just deciding for yourself that John Blow is the same person as Joe Blow, but the end result is a correct and one-of-a-kind online database for the benefit of everyone!

I'm sorry, but as long as the rules will tell me that Francois Truffaut is the correct way to enter FRANCOIS TRUFFAUT in the online database, I will not follow them. Nonsense has limits for me, even if it has none for M.C.R.S...

Ok then, I'll just fetch a cow and fling it in your general direction - maybe then you'll know what I'm talking about...

Perhaps. But I am pleased with people thanking me for my headshots database files, my translation files, and my layout that has been downloaded more than 11000 times. There is not only one way to participate to this community, and contributing wrong data or typos is not my cup of tea, even if it yours', which is your right...

Oh - ok, then - a thousand pardons o'mighty one, for not giving you credit for sharing copyrighted headshots with the community.

And your layout has been downloaded 11000 times you say?!    Wow - that is impressive indeed - especially considering it has nothing to do with DVD's which, (in case you didn't notice) this program is all about...

Copying from other profiles is a time saver, but only because you don't have to re-enter each and every credit manually.  And I believe Ken has stated that it is OK to do this, however, I do not believe he meant it's OK to do it blindly and not check those entries before submitting them.

Ditto.

Whispering:

No one is arguing with your copying profiles. We are vehemently disagreeing with you refusal to verify the data BEFORE contributing. The Online has enough trouble with bad profiles without the problem being magnified several times over.

Um...in an effort to get this thread back on track with a post somewhat related to the thread's original intent...

I submitted my first contribution earlier tonight (ZOMG! Let the nervous nailbiting commence!) and I just noticed something odd on my contributions page. The image status used to say "Received" but is now empty. 'Eh? What happened?

That happens sometimes.  Simply resubmit and it should be fine.  There seems to be some glitch where images will occasionally disappear from submissions.  I just had it happen a couple of weeks ago for a child profile on the latest Three Stooges set.  Didn't notice it until the next day, so I resubmitted and all was good.  Remember to copy your notes to the resubmission.  It essentially overwrites your original submission.
