I don't understand.  The rules tell us exactly what to do.

Quote:
For titles which include periods, dashes, or other symbols, check the credit block on the back of the case if included. If not, check the film credits or opening sequence. Use these to determine whether to exclude or convert the symbol to a standard character such as ".", "-", or "*"

Is the Space Shuttle a "symbol" representing another intended character of some sort?  (to say otherwise would be dishonest)

The rules tell us to check the "Credit Block" or if necessary the "film credits" to convert it to a standard character.  The rules give us an example of ".", "-", or "*".  The rules say "such as", which directly implies that this is not an all inclusive list.

The DVD Title is Space Camp

I don't understand why there is any discussion about that shuttle. I think that everyone here agrees that this film ist not and never was called "Sp ce Camp". I understand that there are discussions when the rules are not clear and people do disagree (like in the thread about additional visual effects companies). But if everyone her agrees that the shuttle represents an "a" and nobody really wants to vote "no" on "Space Camp", then just contribute it with that name and stop arguing about it.

Neither was it called "Space Camp" but "SpaceCamp" without a space as also evidenced in the overview found on the back cover.  I don't see a space on that cover.

And this we can have a debate about.  That is the original question, before it got side-railed on whether the shuttle represents an "A"

I believe 100% without a doubt that that space shuttle on the cover is a symbol for the A...

The problem is that your explanation of symbol was refused by you for titles like T4xi or Se7en. Everybody knew that the 4 and 7 were not to represent the correct spelling of the titles, but used as symbols for a and v. At that time, you refused to replace those symbols by the real spelling, but for Spacecamp, you want to do that. As I wrote, you, as always, violate rules each time you want, and always say to other users that they have to follow strictly those you love (specially reproducing spelling mistakes).

The problem with this argument, is that it was already discussed and ruled upon by Gerri.  While I disagree with the ruling, I will not argue that here.  in T4XI and Se7en, the 4 and the 7 are ASCII represented letters that can be easily replicated on a standard keyboard.  Unfortunately that was a settled argument long ago.

This argument is whether the "Space Shuttle" as represented on the cover, is a symbol used to graphically represent the "A" in Space".  If it is, then can that "Symbol" be recreated on a standard ASCII set.  If it cannot, then we must use other sources to verify what the symbol is supposed to represent, and enter that.

In truth, that was not even the point of the thread.  The starting question

does a line break represent a space when presented as a title, considering the on screen title had no space between the word?

Why do you write "symbol" with quotes instead of word symbol? Because you know that it isn't actually a symbol. It's a picture of a space shuttle replasing letter A in a word space and therefore rule doesn't apply. If you take that picture out of the context and ask someone "what's in the picture", no one will tell you it's a letter A.

By now Ken could have fixed the wording of the rule several times so it would make more sence and we wouldn't have to go on with issues like this.

Wow, this is what you come up with?

Symbol..noun..a thing that represents or stands for something else, esp. a material object representing something abstract.

Is the picture of the shuttle, designed to represent something else?  If it is, then it is a symbol  (there, no quotes).

Excuse me for the way I emphasize, it could have been Italics or bold or a different color. I chose quotes, because that is me.

The rule still applies...

I think the discussion is useless. We have here users who want to violate the rules in this specifical case, and will use any argument to justify themselves, even if in many other cases they say to other users that rules must be followed blindly.

Ken addressed these title issues in the Men in Black thread. There can never be a ruling to cover every title, nor would invelos even want to.

The community is in fact following Ken`s guidelines regarding contributions by substituting the letter for the shuttle. On this particular issue, Ken has said there is NOT a rule to cover all the title variants, therefore no one is breaking any rules.

Other points brought up in this thread, such as the spacing issue, are covered by the rules.

As Charlie already told you that is a totally different situation then we have here. Those can be put in exactly as on the cover.... this cannot be.

I always follow the rules and rulings from Invelos! You are full of it when you say there is some rules I follow and some I do not. I follow them all... or keep the info locally. Anything I do that do not follow the rules or clarifications I just do not submit.

Something about that sounds vaguely familiar.
