I 100% agree, but I would also add the obvious...if the seasons are in UPC based season packaging it is appropriate since each UPC based season can properly contain the rolled up data from the optional children...and the UPC based children are not optional unlike the Disc ID based children. | | | | Last edited: by Scooter1836 |

If the comple set has only disc ids, then I add them as I would a normal box set, chikdren under one parent.
21 Jump Street is an example.
If individual series, sets (years) have their own case withh UPC/EANinclude in the total series, I create box set for these, then incllude then as children under the total collection parent.
Law & Order: The Complete Series (Parent Level 1)
Law & Order: The First Year... (Parent Level 2)
Law & Order: The First Year: Disc 1 (Child)
...
...
Law & Order: Second Year... (Parent Level 2)
...Law & Order: Second Year: Disc 1 (Child)

to
Law & Order: The Twentieth Year: 2009-2010 Season (Parent Level 2)
Law & Order: The Twentieth Year: 2009-2010 Season: Disc One (Child)

However, if I don't have a UPC for the season, I don't have a UPC for the season. I then create a manual profile for it.
The DiscID of disc 1 belongs to the disc profile, not to a season profile because this particular DiscID does not identify the season.
Why the disc 1 ID? Why not the disc 6 ID? It seems rather arbitrary to use the disc 1 ID just because I have don't have anything else.
Take this into consideration: Someone sold a box set with all the Connery James Bond movies with a UPC. And a box set with all the Moore Bonds and so on. Now there'a a Complete Set with all these individual box sets - except this time there is no UPC on the Connery box within the Complete Set. Do I suddenly use the Dr. No DiscID to create a Connery mid-level profile between the Complete Set and the individual films or do I just skip this piece of packaging and attach the Connery and Moore films directly to the Complete Set? | | | Karsten

That's exactly it, there are multiple way that people like to see these in their own collection and what needs to be don (as far as the online DB is concerned) is to profiles in the best way that makes the data flexible so the end user of the data can view it how they want with the minimal amount of work. Personally I think the approaches outlined do that when you look at all the different methods people want to see these. |
