for my part.. You already know how I would do it... the dashes are the same length as the letter n in the same font. which is how you determine it is an en-dash.

and the bottom one is the same length as the letter M... so would be the em-dash.

Ah, way too much energy and anal retention over a bloody short or long hyphen/dash thingie.

Will it effect the quality of your life or the life of others ?

Will it cause WW4 ?

There are much bigger things to worry about in life like the Star Wars BluRay release <sarcasm>

-R or –R or maybe its —R

I am more worried about Pete's avatar. It looks like he added a stronger green tint to it since he originally uploaded it.

Pete do you have an official statement on that green tint of yours?

So there you go, then. I could even live with that conclusion, hypothetically.
But then there is simply no need to use the hyphen, which is what you do!
So yeah, your contributions are across the board wrong.

And you still talk about the grammar, as if it mattered.

It's interesting to note though, that the system you mention to me seems a bit American or whatever, and here in Europe, we are quite unanimous about just hyphen or tankstreck/"en-dash" (or in German Gedanenkstrich). Even if we do have a long "tankstreck" too, which to you would be the em-dash. But I have simply never seen it used anywhere. Maybe in novels for describing conversations.

I simply think there is some odd cultural clash here.

*I* use my, Swedish/European style, and *you* would use the American.
America is one country (or, OK, two), Europe is like a hundred. LoL.

The thing is... it really don't matter how you feel about the usage. We have to copy the overview EXACTLY per Rules... And that is exactly what I did!

I am now getting a no vote because I copied an en-dash (which per our grammar should be a dash) to match the source. Once again... it is an en-dash in the overview... per rules it has to be an en-dash in profiler.

another thing you should be considering... per Invelos rules....

Quote:
If a user is following the Contribution Rules and his/her data is accurate, and the contribution replaces data which is inaccurate or violates these Contribution Rules, a "No" vote is considered an abuse of the voting privilege and should be avoided when possible.

Your no vote is a violation of that rule. because comparing these dashes to the n and m within the same font... I am using the same that the overview writer used... which is per rules. So my contribution is correct and accurate per rules.

I'm not violating any rules since you don't seem to either understand what you are doing or know how or what to contribute.
I mean, what's up with the (regular) dashes?
You already said no to those when you said no to following grammar...

I use the hyphen when I am supposed to. when it is shorter then the letter n. That is how I was always taught to determine a dash...

comparing all dashes to the letters n and m....

If it is about the length of the letter m it is an em-dash
If it is about the length of letter n it is an en-dash
If it is shorter then an n it is a regular dash (hyphen).

If I mis-used any per what I put above... it was purely by mistake... please be more specific... I know I used an en-dash for Jor-El even though it is grammatically incorrect... because it is about the length of the letter n. so it  is correct.

There is some subjectivity here.  Personally, I would never do this, I'd use a hyphen, but I certainly wouldn't spend more than a nano-second debating over it.

ASIDE from some odd "grammar rules"... That aren't even relevant to DVD Profiler and our system!

This is the problem of our database. Considering "grammar rules" as odd and irrelevant is the main cause of the mess in the online. The only correct solution would be to follow grammatical rules (of the concerned language, of course).

So then, simply, all your dashes are incorrect. I have pointed them out for you.

However, I will not use these "rules" myself. For me, there is no em-dash.
It's a cultural issue. Much like you can't draw Muhammad.

But I would spend like a trillion nano seconds about thinking about voting yes for the use at all of em-dashes, when there is no good, international way to describe their usage.
The em-dash is simply new and very alien to me and I don't like them because the look like mistakes. Freaks of nature. Brrr.

But then, if people aren't taught today about en-dashes and em-dashes, it's another issue.
I don't want to know about the em-dash.
But I myself use my grammatical knowledge for the use of dashes.
Nor can I be expected to know about or understand "the American way".
I bet France as well "only" has dash and en-dash, yes?

Because it's an American thing? Because it's there to cause confusion?
The em-dash doesn't exist to me not only because I say so, but because it's not in my language.

Yeah!
I'm getting all warm & fuzzy inside.

By the way those guards seem to have a ball.
And is that a space craft next to the fire?

And, by the way, this is on-topic, because there are (unfortunately) some silly episodes in Smallville with witches and witch craft.
