Correct title for the case in the topic is Ascenseur pour l'échafaud If this is true, and I have no reason to believe it isn't, why didn't they follow those rules when they made the title card for the film? For artistic reasons, an author can always choose not to follow them and I am not sure that all titles in English follow English capitalization rules. Actually they ask to follow the capitalization rules common to the language of the title. Which is a good thing. Neither country of origin nor locality have something to do with it. I agree. But generally, the language used for original title is the language used in the country of origin. In fact, 99% of French movies have French titles, and I do not know many American movies with French, or Spanish or German titles... | | | | Images from movies |
