Just to throw my 2 cents in, I think the information should come from the release itself. And as always, only from the original, on the day of it's release meaning if other releases use the same UPC, then it should not replace the original. If a new release has it's own UPC, then it should stand on it's own.

DVD releases and theatrical distribution have nothing to do with one another, so I don't see why we should try to tie those two together.

Theatrical distribution has to do with films, not DVDs, so if a film has multiple DVD releases (in a particular region) they should all have the same studios listed.  Media companies are, of course, a different story.

I think this is how we do it now unless I'm very much mistaken.

I use the original "Theatrical Release Studio" when known, and don't worry about how many DVD editions of the movie have been released.

That is how, at least from what I can tell, most people do it.  Studio data, for the most part, always comes from the film credits.  Now that I think of it, I can't recall the last time I saw anyone enter anything different.

So do we use the original 1937 release as the one and only true release material or the umpteen releases after wards ...../????????????????????

Which of those "umteen releases" would you consider to be the "one and only true" release?

---------------

well from 1958 :  every 7 years would be 1965 / 1972 / 1979/ 1986 / 1993/ 2000 ............ and every 7 years the release was bigger and better than before ........

That's because, for the most part, it is located there.  Once in a while some of it is not.

You are preaching to the choir.  The point I am making is, most users will not check and, speaking from personal experience, will vote 'no' to any change to the contrary...which is why my local profile for Logan's Run includes United Artists as the theatrical release studio, while the on-line matches IMDb.

I will throw my opinion here.

Since we have people that argue about release date and film festivals, I think that we have to go back to the "original" theatrical release (since this was not a straight to DVD release).  In this case RKO should be correct

I am not sure how we can track  multiple theatrical releases for any given movie.  So given this fact, we need to agree on a standard. I say the "original" theatrical release, same as what we use priduction year for.
