Yes, you missed the fact that it is exactly the same color, and there are no symbols. So that "if" doesn't apply...

So according to your logic the names of the actresses would be Lindsaylohan and Andtinafey??

Different formatting might very well be seen as "symbol" (which in fact doesn't mean much more than "visualization")

EDIT: Ken, would you please, enter the word "formatting" into the rule.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

My logic has nothing to do with this. I was told many times that we should never interpret rules. So, I don't interpret them. Until Ken changes them, Mean Girls is a violation of what is written.

As for names as Lindsaylohan, I already saw worse, decided by rules.

So just for the sake of the discussion:
What is in your opinion the meaning of the word "symbol"??
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Those were all signs like *, -,• that were discussed about M*A*S*H, or WALL•E, or F.R.I.E.N.D.S...

So you showed me examples of some symbols, what does the word symbol mean??

EDIT: To cut it somewhat shorter: It's the visualization of something that otherwise can't be seen. The classical example for this would be Owl -> Wisdom, another example would be different formatting -> space
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

(...) Layer Cake with the number 4, for example.  A completely nonsense title that graphically looks cool but doesn't even match the credit block.  Yet folks will swear up and down that the name of the movie is L4yer Cake.

Some do, I don't.

Going by the picture in the OP... I see different coloring on the two words. Mean is multi colored (2 colors one above the other)... and I only see one color on the word Girls Now it could be my bad eyes and the scan... but that is what I see on the scan anyway.

Quoting T!M:

Edit:
And even if both colors is on both words... the rules says...

Quote:

The rule says Different coloring not Different Colors Where the word Mean is 50% one color and 50% another... and the word Girls is all (or almost all) 1 color... it is per rules. The Coloring of each word is different. So the rule literally covers if it is different colors as well as different colorizing styles.

So the Rule does apply!

Yes you are right. But that isn'ty the issue with Yves, and he likely doesn't care. He wants only to cause trouble in order to achieve what he wants and will jump on any and all opportunities to to do so. It's too bad really.
ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!

I explained that because it was said he had the point and asked where us "purists" were at....

Quoting mdnitoil:

Well, I certainly agree that the title should be two words, but Yves has a point.  Where are all the purists now who were crying for some pretty stupid titles because they couldn't wrap their heads around the concept of graphic design?  I believe the mantra was don't interpret the data, just type what you see.

I was basically answering I am right here. It is per rules to make it Mean Girls (as I explained in detail above) so that is how voted. If I didn't feel it was covered by the rules I would have voted differently.

The Coloring of each word is different.

The main line that separate both colors is a straight with no interruption between both words.  So the coloring is the same. And rules do not speak, as you do, of different coloring, but of coloring splitting the title words. If I follow your reasoning, each letter has a different coloring, so you would have to add a space between each letter. You can try to argue what you want, rules, in that case, say Meangirls. I agree that that was probably not the intention, but words are what they are (as for boxset in case of two movies on the same side, before Ken changed the rule as I asked).

At that time, you already voted against rules (see your post).

I am voting per the rules... just because you read the rules differently then  I do don't mean anything. On each word the coloring is different... that is what the rules say... that is what the case shows. the is an even mixture of 2 colors on one word. and one color (or an extremely different) coloring on the second word. So per Rules it is Mean Girls.

pulling up an old post like that is the most ridiculous thing I ever seen. That was not a boxset because it was (and is) not possible to make such a boxset. Just because Ken didn't state the obvious in the rules until he had to makes it no different. That is how many of the rules are. He didn't put it into the rules until he had to.

The coloring is different, there is no question about it, so the rules apply. Why is it necessary to start an argument??? Tim's question is answered and this thread needs to be closed. Why do people have to look for fights?

PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD!

Although I agree the title is obviously Mean Girls, I can see the points that Yves and mdnitoil are addressing. And yes, these points are valid whether or not we like or agree with them.

This discussion, once again, illustrates my point that nothing is perfect...I was a little nervous when the poll was unanimous!

I only hope that further discussion will be polite and respectful no matter what your personal feelings are on the topic.

My opinion on this?  Vote according to how you interpret the rules and let the screeners make the final determination.

On each letter, the coloring is different. So, your application of rules should be "M e a n g i r l s". You have no place for Mean Girls (why split between N and G ? , why not Mea Ngirls ?).

Well I'll stop here that stupid discussion. You see I can too use bad faith, and that will bring nothing good. Just waiting for a new rule that will come or not, as Ken wants. Until then I will vote no on Mean Girls.

And about consistency, don't we have a "symbol" between Show and Girls, and why does the database contain 22 "Showgirls" for only 6 "Show Girls" ?
