FYI, the contribution in question is from May 23, not April 23, and it is in 2nd level review.  This can now be seen on your My Profiler->contributions list as "Reviewing" for the status.

As a side note, those in reviewing status can now (as of today) be voted on.

It does not seem to matter.  I had various versions of Oldboy (2003) submission with complete cast and crew that had 13 votes for, 0 votes against that was declined for birth year reasons.  I included the following note with the submission.

Quote:
Complete cast and crew from the Korean credits (as credited when English names are present)

Ji-hye Lee in the movie is a child (BY unknown).
Ji-hye Lee in the database (BY Unknown  http://movie.daum.net/movieperson/Summary.do?personId=15479) plays a high school gangster in Wet Dreams (2002).

If you actually tried to submit a fictitious BY with a documentation stating that the BYs in fact are unknown, the decline comes as no surprise.
What may surprise though is the complete lack of "No"-votes
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I agree.. going by what was put in the notes it looks like you tried to use a false birth year. That wouldn't be acceptable anyway. If I had that title to vote on it would have been a no vote because we don't submit false birth years... even if you can't find the real one.

Didn't we decide that if you could not find BY, that you can use the year of the first film in which they appeared?

What do you do then?  Link together actors that you know are different?  That doesn't make any sense.

How many weeks does this "2nd level review" take? It's still under "reviewing"

My latest BY submission was on June 3rd and got accepted today.
So either your contribution got lost on the way (which I don't believe), or there has to be a bit of research to be done, which might take a while.
Not quite sure though how Ken evaluates BY submissions, except for the usual: sources, sources and (of course) sources.

i have one from May 21st that has just been accepted today

There has been talk from the users about such an idea... but no.. Ken has not signed off on this to my knowledge. And he would have to as per rules we use birth years.

As of right now there is nothing you can do for the main online database. Anything beyond the real birth year has to be kept local at this time.

Pete is correct, the idea has been floated around, but never adopted.  This is the fatal flaw in the BY system.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Xradman, could you give us some movie more movies in which this two Ji-hye Lee played? (There are several Ji-hye Lee in web) Perhaps we can help you to find the BYs.

This could be the one from Wet Dreams (Born 1981):

That's one of the correct Ji-hye Lee.  I don't know where Han Cinema got her birth year.

The other Ji-hye Lee is a child actress who played the role of Mi-do (Kang Hye-jeong's role) as a child.  She's been in no other films AFAIK.  Since I am submitting profiles for Oldboy, I'm still stuck as far as submitting BY for Ji-hye Lee (child), unless I submit BY for Ji-hye Lee (1981) first for Wet Dream.  This is way more complex than it needs to be.

Even with submitting the BY of the Wet Dream actress it is not perfect, because without the second BY all Ji-hye Lee will locally link to the one with BY.

The young actress is getting hard to find. I couldn't even find one site that lists her in the credits of Oldboy.

It's tough.  She's in the KMDB, but as a non-linking entry.

Even in the English version her credit misses:

If we can't somehow resolve these birth year issues, it's going to be awfully tough to do many complete cast and crew for these Korean films.  I find most of them have these same name, multiple actor problems.

Generally I like the idea of switching from BY to earliest confirmed (means: credited) appearance in a movie.
At least this makes documentation a lot easier, for not talking about the actual "finding" of dates, which for several cast-/crew-members turned out out to be nearly impossible.

Anyone for taking this to the rules committee??
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
