When dealing with close ratios such as .2.35, 2.39 or 2.40, I think it would be very hard to make any kind of claim that the AR is 2.35 and not the 2.40 claimed on the box, that would very easily fall into the realm of human error.

I have now twice been denied, in the past,  to contribute 2.40:1 when the box said 2.4:1  ..    ?  same thing isn't it??  40 is the same as 4.    not .04  ?/

I haven't seen the box yet that says 2.4, the industry appears to have made the choice to use numbers to hundredth place. I won't say they aren't out there, terry, but I don't recall seeing one yet. What title would you be referring to.

It doesn't matter. For DVD Profiler purposes, you enter it as 2.40:1.

That's what the problem was. Some contributions have been declined because the box says 2.4:1 & the contribution was 2.40:1.

Upon what do you base that, Tim. Certainly not the Rules. While PERSONALLY I would agree with you for simple consistency. I can also see Terry's argument, he is simply going with the data as it is presented. Now that it has been pointed out, I would probably vote neutral. There is certainly nothing in the Rules to back you up, Tim, or are you trying to force your interpretation again. I will also state there was nothing even remotely approaching this idea in my mind, at the time...oh I forgot you know more than I...sorry about that.

I find it fascinating that this is something relative to the advent of HD/BD, I can't help but wonder why...and repeat my mantra...I...hate...Hollywood.

The valid entry is 2.40:1. You will get 2.4:1 when you do not check the Anamorphic checkbox.

Quite right.  Only a problem if there are roles in the actual credits.

Agreed but, in this case, I got the impressions that he did not want to use the credits...not that the credits didn't have roles listed.

I didn't get that impression at all. He is after all talking about a US sitcom from the early 90s, and it's very rare for those to have role names in their credits, especially for the main cast.
In that situation I see using the overview on the back cover as more than reasonable for role names, he just needs to specify that there are none in the credits.

Alright, here is a hypothetical situation.  If the existing profile just had the actors names with no roles.  How would you vote if someone just added the roles per back cover, or just the names and roles of the main characters?

Isn't having some info better than having none, specially when very, very, very few people are going to go through the trouble of copying down the entire screen credits for any movie.

In this situation, should we assume that there are roles in the actual credits, or none?
If there are roles in the credits, and the roles from the overview didn't match then I think I would vote no.
If the credits had no roles, then I would vote yes - it seems a perfectly reasonable place to get them from.
In both situations it wouldn't matter if some or all cast were added. It would be nice for all cast to be added, but it wouldn't affect my vote.

Then you refer to this part of the Rules:-

If an actor is credited by name but does not have an associated role, you may use another source to identify the role. In each case, list Actor’s names and roles (when given) exactly as they are in the credits and in exactly the same order credited.

which is located in the cast section and is the third bullet pointed item.

No I am not.  There are plenty of profiles in the database where there is scant information on cast and crew.  It may list 3 or 5 actors with no roles.  They may have been carried over from the old database or accepted that way as a preorder or new profile.  The credits have complete names and roles, but the existing profile does not.  Let's say that the contributor just added the roles per back cover without copying them from the credits.

Based on what you have said, and no further information to clarify the situation. I would vote NO, I don't agrre with your hypothesis, xradman. We have Rules and they do not provide for something is better than nothing. Follow the Rules, no problem, don't and we have a problem.

I will admit that I missed that part.  Don't know how, but I did.

According to Gerri, it is quite acceptable to only enter the main actors.  However, that information...assuming it is available...should still come from the end credits.  JMHO.

Quite correct, Gerri has said nothing that would run counter to the rules, there is nothing that says you have to enter ALL data, just the provision as to where the data comes from.
