| Posted: | | | | Quoting Dr. Killpatient: Quote: DVD Profiler keeps an accurate copy of the overview as it exists on the back cover of the DVD. It's not about having what you or I may consider accurate. I do not collect discs of plastic inside plastics box with paper cover. I collect movies, on DVDs. When I write an overview, it's about a movie, which is the only reason I have the dvd, and I find it stupid to reproduce an error which has nothing to do with the movie. Anyway, I cannot write voluntarily a spelling mistake. I can make ones, as every people, but reproduce it knowing it's an error, I can't. I understand your point of view, and if some people feel comfortable to play this, I'm happy for them. But I will never play this with that sort of rules. That's one of the main reasons that made me stop contributing... | | | Images from movies |

I'm sorry...but that has to be one of the poorest excuses for not contributing that I have heard yet. You could say that if I had not contributed nearly 400 profile (and hundreds with Intervocative) , only new complete ones. I did that until we were obliged to write notes on new contributions. I could easily lie about the fact that I do not want to follow this rule (all is in french, I 'm sure screeners will not review with the DVD in hand...), but I do not want to play this game. When you write "I have heard yet", I remember you that I already said that eight monthes ago and you jumped on me at this occasion (blah, blah, blah, blah... BTW you stopped that with reputation system ). You should not be surprised... | | | Images from movies |

The confusion seems to be that this is not Movie Profiler, it's DVD Profiler. However, you can turn it into Movie Profiler for your own local use but it must remain DVD Profiler for the online database - and the online database is what this discussion is about. | | | Last edited: by Dr. Killpatient |

IMHO, his avatar caries no weight as to how I perceive his posts. If you don't like a particular image, simply block it if your browser supports it. Firefox and Ad Block Pro works great! When I'm at work, I block everybody's avatar. |

This is a software with is made for people who want to collect DVDs, and movies are not excluded for pieces of plastic's sake. The soft is even not very well adapted for DVDs that are not for movies (cast, crew, overview and so on...). So we may use it as "movieprofiler". In France, we use "Word" of Microsoft, and quite never type "word". The name of the software doesn't mean everything... | | | Images from movies |

When you write "I have heard yet", I remember you that I already said that eight monthes ago and you jumped on me at this occasion (blah, blah, blah, blah... BTW you stopped that with reputation system ). You should not be surprised... Who cares how long ago you said it . It's still the poorest excuse for not contributing that I have heard yet...unless, of course, you'd like to offer another lame excuse? Then that would be the poorest excuse I have heard yet. Requiring documentation in the contribution notes has greatly reduced the amount of garbage that many users have tried to introduce into the database based on their personal preferences. That was a good thing. Oh...almost forgot...Blah, blah, blah, blah... | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection | | | Last edited: by Bad Father |

You do realize that you can contribute the proper overview text exactly as it appears on the DVD cover then once submitted you can change it to whatever you want and lock it? If I'd wanted to have my own overview locally which I could not contribute according to the rules, I would definitely not enter the overview according the rules for contribution only to be overwritten and locked locally. But then I still could contribute the other fields from the profile except for new profiles. I think we need the check boxes for partial contribution for new profiles as well. |

| Posted: | | | | I don't understand why some users jump on Surfeur because he don't contribute anymore. Nobody his oblige to contribute if he don't want too. The software is a personnal DVD cataloguer at first, the online database is just an extra, usefull but not something that make DVDP useless. Last year the datase didn't work (everyone know why) and nobody died or stopped buying DVD.
By the way, I was the first to say that I don't contribute anymore. I didn't sop because of the overview (I certainly don't master the english language enough to correct the error), but because of the common name crazyness.
If my reason is stupid for some users thats ok with me, but I prefer to make my profile one time only for me and not two times for the online database. |

I never "jumped" on Surfeur because he doesn't contribute anymore. Frankly I couldn't care less if he ever contributes. I commented on his "main reason" for not contributing anymore. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

-Gerri You did move south of the Mason Dixon Line as I recall. I don't believe that Maryland is considered "south of the Mason Dixon line". Not to mention that your stereotyping of southerners is not terribly funny. | | | Hal |

I think he wanted to say, that he would not enter the original overview and contribute it just to overwrite it afterwards with an overview of his own. He would just write his own overview and lock it. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

Skip On the first point I stand corrected. On the second point, she likes being called stupid? To each their own! | | | Hal |
