a change to a genre that is not blatantly wrong I don't see as being supported by the rules.

I don't see that as forbidden either, if it is not the only change to the profile.

"Do not make contributions that only change or re-order Genres, unless the existing Genre list is blatantly incorrect".

But I agree you could read that sentence differently
Maybe a clarification is needed?

"The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain...".
My Fair Lady is a great musical, my favorite one.

My point was that, following your interpretation of the rules, you couldn't call a musical a musical, if someone called it, say, a family film: not the real thing, yet not  blatantly wrong!.

and that is what local is for... if you don't completely agree with something online but yet it is still right. what it boils down to is in your opinion it is not completely right... but in someone else's opionion what is already there is completely right... what makes your opinion more important then their's??

Indeed, Genres are a matter of opinion.
For instance, I might say that House M.D. is Comedy because he sometimes makes jokes. But them, many others will rather say it's Drama not Comedy, and I think they should be allowed to change that piece of information in the profile, if a majority of voters think so. I say: let's vote on Genres and the majority wins.

Also, by the way, what is "blatantly wrong" in someone's opinion might be "not blatantly wrong" in someone else's opinion. Any veto is right? That's a slippery way, in my view.

What makes the first contributor's opinion more important than mine?

What if the first contributor changes his mind and agrees with the change? (that happens to be the case here).

What if the Genre is stated on the cover, but it's not in the profile?
Does the "Never change unless blatanty wrong" rule (if it exists) always apply?

you can "what if" all day long... but situations like you are talking can happen but few and far between. what is trying to be done (I believe... with the way I read the rule) is to make it so there is as little of ping ponging of the profiles as possible. Which I for one agree with it. I am not going to keep going back and forth on it with you though... so the way I see it... I don't agree with you... you don't agree with me... so lets just agree to disagree.

Let's disagree... in principle.

In practical terms, I am not eager to risk more declined contributions, or the ping pong you were talking about, and stuff... so I'll follow your advice and leave "Drama" as one of the Genres for Friends, even if it's not (in my and your opinion, at least).

I doubt I would call Friends a drama.  However, I don't understand why someone would make such a big deal out of what the genres are in the main database.  Since you can lock your local database and put anything in the genre field you want, why are you so insistent that the main database be what YOU think it should be.  That seems to me to be the the heights of arrogance.

When did I say that? As I said before, if and when there are different opinions on what Genres are right, let's discuss and vote. If no one can submit a change, that means that the first contributor has the last word. I say: let the community (not me) have the last word.
Of course I can just lock my local datatabase and live happily, that's what I've just done in this case. But isn't that selfish and kind of dumb? What is the point of having a Genres field in the online database, if you can't (at least try to) make it better, so that people can trust it a bit more?
