With all due respect, my friend. And the difference between some future issue for you and what has been a continuing issue for users like Pete, because he can't make heads or tails out the existing situation is what exactly.

Was that a question or a statement?  I don't recall saying that there was any difference.  I simply stated my opinion.  Is that no longer allowed?

I understand, I have told the world what i am trying to achieve, what suggestions have you raised. None that i have seen, you simply want to stand pat, which does nothing to improve the quality of our data and does even less to rectify the issues of these Forum because of the endless arguments and hostility. Your Contributabl Custom Roles is an answer but it's a half-answer, it does little to fix the ills here.

Wait, now I am confused.  How can my 'Contributable Custom Roles' be an answer when you haven't seen me raise any suggestions?

No more unnecessary or insulting than your post to Donnie.  If your post was fine, then so was mine.  If you insist that mine wasn't, fine I mean, well, what is it you said earlier in this thread?  Oh yea, "you should make sure your own house is cleaned up before taking me on."

northbloke was kind enough to share his work with me. He spent 3 hours tracking one minute of film credits from Casino Royale. There was an additional minute of film credits remaining when he gave up.

Thx for doing that to you and northbloke, as i said earlier, the database would explode, the online one and everyones local one!

Donnie

This statement is definately not true.  Everyones Local would expand as much as the local user wanted to expand.  from very little, to the full set.  It has always been part of the system, to allow the user to decide exactly what he wants in his own.

As far as the online exploding, in all realism, I would not imagine more than 7 to 10%, that is not what I would call an explosion.

This is true for their existing profiles.  However, if all this crew information gets added to the main, when you download a "new" profile to your local, all of the crap will come with it.  The only way to get rid of it would be to manually remove it.

Not a good plan if you ask me!

The difference is that you are worried added workload, NOT confusion which is what Pete is dealing with because of the issues caused by the existing system. You can't complain about confusion because it is hard to be any clearer than WSIWYT, so you complain about workload.

I don't but I know that I DO and that I am actively trying to fix problems that I see. I don't see you doing anything, but then that's why it was myself and Dan W a who saw the problems created by our old Wild West system and sought to fix that. And the database has been vastly improved as a result.

You do not see me do anything ?
I can only take this as a joke....regarding that I am active in many different ways around here (contributions, galleries, headshots, case type images).

Would like to see you do only one of those things , instead of accusing me doing nothing.

Ah well, let us move on, KEN has spoken and decided

Indeed. I might not always agree with you, but I certainly can't say that you're not active & appreciate the effort you put in, especially in the non-contributable areas such as the headshots & case types.

Precisely. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's people who are bossing others around (or at least: trying to do that) while not contributing anything themselves.

By the way, as this is a PUBLIC forum, I will respond to whatever post I feel like.  If you don't like it, don't post...or better yet, follow your own advice and stop with the hyperbole and insults.

At the risk of getting my nose knocked off.    I have to agree.  While we don't always agree, sometimes heatedly disagree, I can't deny the fact that you do contribute a lot.

I didn't say Donnie didn't Ciontribute anything. I asked him what ideas I have i seen him put forth, other than simply doing an imitation of a roadblock, none on this issue. Absolutely ZERO. That doesn't mean he doesn't Contribbute, nor you, martian, but he has no ideas on this, and i gather that both he and he you like the hostile and poisonous atmosphere of the forums.

Thank you, James and north. I won't go to this extreme it takes up too much valuable Forum space, but I a, always willing to send anyone copies of my files and or Images upon reqest. All you have to do is ask.

m.cellophane and North should correct me if i'm wrong but i don't think he posted this with the idea to share. I think it was mend more as an example of how ridiculous full open credits could get.

Paul

Yes, that is my opinion.

As I look at the choices, I can't help but see the differences between Options 1-2 and Options 3-4. For Options 1-2, the Pro arguments are based on theory and supposition. The Pro argument seems to be in favor of making life easier for pontificators to tell others what to do. But there isn't really a groundswell of contributors clamoring to contribute the data in the style of Options 1-2.

Options 3-4 have actual active contributors. We're contributing under Option 4 and many of us are tracking the data locally for Option 3. It's possible that there are enough contributors to justify moving to Option 3 using a method where custom roles are contributable while giving users the ability to display either standard roles or custom roles locally. Options 3-4 require negotiation and cooperation and compromise to get the roles right and this frustrates some and causes them to throw up their hands in favor of Options 1-2.

But really, without a large number of contributors poised to contribute at the Options 1-2 level, why are we even talking about it? Just to satisfy database principles and "eliminate" arguments? (as if that would ever happen) Not a good enough reason in my opinion.

Who's going to spend 6 hours transcribing open credit crew? Who wants to scan up and down the crew list to find where the director is buried in "as-credited order"?

Thx Martian,

I can say vice versa and have said it before, you also do a lot of good stuff for this community here but as you also said on some things we have a totally different point of view, and disagree heavily.

But as long as we do not end in calling names all is fine with me

To be honest, sometimes I like to have a good disagreement

But I really have a problem, when people come out calling names, accusing others without doing anything themselves for this community

In the end this should and for me still is a very fun hobby and I still love doing it

That is why I did not take the step that people like "goodguy" Taro" and some others did.

Think I clearly stated that IN MY OPINION the crew system is good as it is, I do not give a rats behind on best boys, caterers and assistant directors.
