I logged into the website today, and realized that I hadn't been here since mid December.

I use to check almost everyday for new discussions, and even though some were quite spirited, I always did enjoy the back and forth.

I know that I was tapering off, checking here once or twice a week, but to go an entire month plus, and not even realize I hadn't been here seems kind of weird.

Maybe it is me, but the draw to the online has lost its appeal, and that maybe due to a lack of interest by the owners. With a lack of interest from the owners, the lack of interest by the community seems to have followed.

At the current rate, my lack of interest may all be a death knell of my participation or even perusing this site, and that is a shame.

I still use the program, though that seems to have tapered off a bit too, but that may be not buying as much as I once did.

To the future we head, even though that future is unsure...

I still come here every 2-5 days and I still use the app but I'm always holding my breath when I click on the bookmark for invelos.com wondering if this is the time I'll get a server not found error.

I update my titles at least 3 times a week., and update contributions about every three weeks.
Never have an issue with servers and usually rely on others for cast and crews entries, but have been known to contribute these too.!

Well, my activity may be very sporadic and since I'm going to be a dad at the end of march it won't increase again soon, but I update my collection regulary and are happy about every created and maintained profile. I don't contribute a lot, mostly Disc-IDs or cast and crew for profiles that lay bare for years, but I also like collecting headshots and posting an update now and then. And that won't change as long as DVD Profiler still works and it is possible to contribute and receive updates.

And on anothe note: There are quite a few very talented programmers in this community and I am that IF one day DVDProfiler may be a thing of the past, we'll have a worthy successor for which I'll gladly pay.

Wishful thinking, I'm sorry to say. Creating a program that comes anywhere near the capabilities of DVD Profiler would be a herculean task. Add to that the cost and problems of creating and maintaining a website and an online database. Not going to happen, I'm afraid.

Of course it can't work like Ken's "pay once, use for a lifetime" model. But I'd like to think that quite some hardcore users wouldn't mind supporting such a project with a monthly or annual fee.

I'm on temporary hiatus (my new Windows 10 computer is giving me issues so until that's resolved I'm reluctant to download the software to get around the Windows 10 problem). But once things are working with my computer, things still work well enough here that I plan to resume contributing. While the lack of updates is annoying, things as they are work well enough beyond that Windows 10 issue.

I am a huge fan of DVD P, but I'm having a harder and harder time adding movies from the online databases now, particularly since we have shifted away from a physical disc toward more intangible online purchases. Are we going to see other formats come online for the database, or will the database continue to only use DVD/BluRay/etc versions?

As you point out, other formats are more intangible, and thus difficult or impossible to uniquely identify.  I would be very surprised if the online database will ever accommodate non-physical formats, but as I responded in the other thread where you asked this same question it's pretty easy to add such movies to your local database.

Thank you for the reply Scott. I appreciate you taking the time. Yes, manual entry is possible, but it takes many times longer to enter even the basic info in and add a cover, let alone adding cast, crew, descriptions, etc. I haven't done much looking into other programs yet, but it appears that they may be pulling from imdb and other like sources for information on these non-DVD programs.

It doesn't appear that Invelos is going to modernize it's approach to these releases, so it may be time to look to other solutions. If Invelos decided to go to a more subscription based model in order to have the resources to cover this expansion, I'd certainly consider it, since it has been an invaluable program for me for many years.

@TCCBodhi:
What you could do is try and find an existing profile in the Invelos database for a physical release of the movie or TV show in question, download that profile and then modify it to match your online purchase. If such a profile exists, it will save you a tremendous amount of time to do it this way.

Thank you for another idea. I've already Been doing that for some time; including BluRay, 4K, etc & even foreign editions, but the hit/miss ratio continues to expand.

This is something that at one point was discussed, an enhanced version via subscription, and something that many die hards on these boards including myself absolutely wanted, not just to try to encourage more development or get extra features, but to support the program, the fact is I paid $25 for this software almost 20 years ago and still use it regularly. I would love to support the developer more, but there are no avenues to do so.
